Just picked up a new Savage 12FV

The bedding block will not do any damage to a steel receiver.

Since everything is manmade, there's always small differences in each action, and bedding block whether you like it or not. Some guy's are pretty anal about such things and they will go ahead and skim bed the action into the bedding block.
Does it help them get any better accurracy? Who knows,Some will say-Yes it does, and others will think other wise.

All of mine shoot just fine without bedding,so I didn't bed my actions in any of the 3 Choate stocks I have.

The main thing to do,is make sure you torque the action screws properly in the new stock.

Congradulations

Yeah, I got a bad one. I have a couple others that are true star performers, hope yours is. I would go with the Nikon. It should have better optics and you will have a higher power. If you get bitten by the "tight group" bug, you will be upgrading to an even higher power scope(some people never do). I never dreamed of having a scope more than 6x, til I got a 22-250. Now I look for 36x-ers on sale, so I can stock up. Hope you enjoy it and good luck...:D

With the Choate Tool stock and the aluminum V bedding, would it make any sense to glass bed on top of the V block with Arcaglas?
