Just got rid of my new P99...

Kentucky I had a Walther PPK 380 that was just junk. Broken parts and malfunctions up the kazoo. Sent it back for repair twice said that's enough, so I sent it back to Walther for a full "I mean FULL" refund along with my sales slip. If you get a bad gun the company should cover it. Right now as we speak I bought a top of the line Chevrolet Venture Mini Van for my wife with TV and all. The vehicle has had so far an alternator, waterpump, thermosate and radiator cap, Air bag switch, two new fuel injectors, two head gaskets, gas sending switch and more , I am trying to get a new car from chevrolet becuase my Mini van is one year old and has 10,000 miles on it. Would you say I should trade it of get a brand new vehicle from Chevy. They are working with me now I will know on Monday. I don't want to trade it because of the hit I would take but if Chevy gives me a new car at the same sticker I bought my car for, I would do it. Same thing as a gun I gave my Walther a fair shake and now a 32,000.00 doallar mini van a fare shake but I want a new car.
I might have to go Lemon Law but I am trying to work with Chevy.

cocojo,

I think the lemon law applies to having to have the same problem fixed numerous times on the same vehicle. I don't think it covers everything breaking once over a year as you seem to have had happen. I'd read up on it in your state or consult a good attorney before trying to push that angle on Chevy. Just food for thought.

Cocojo...

I'm sure I'll get some flames here. I hate to post this. However, I got so many American cars which were lemons, I decided to buy imports. I've never been so happy in an auto purchase in my WHOLE LIFE as when I got that first Honda. Then, it was a Toyota. Both cars NEVER had to go back to the dealer. Not even once! Then the day came when my wife came to me and said that she wanted another American car. It had been a few years since my last lemon, so in hopes things had improved, I bought her what she wanted. A sporty, shiny black Pontiac Grand Am. It looked great! And the engine was something else! Really fast, with all the electric gizmos. She was happy and I was happy to make HER so happy! Around 20,000 miles, something called the Electronic Command Module went out. Over $500.00! Was it covered by the warranty-NO! After that, it seemed like the car was trying to nickle and dime me to death. The last straw was when it sucked it's head gasket into the engine and anti-freeze from the radiator mixed with the oil. It was my WIFE, and she HAD to have a dependable car. She can't just pull over and fix something! Fearing that the cars that come out of Detroit had not improved, I purchased her a new Nissan Altima. We've had it for three years now and it's never had to go back to the dealer. (Although I do think that Altimas are put together in Tenn. Not Japan.) My new truck is another Nissan. A 2000 Frontier. I've had it for a year and it also has never had to make a trip back to the dealer.
Don't get me wrong. Some people have great luck with American cars. My father put over 300,000 miles on the last Lincoln he bought.
I fear this post will bring out some hard feelings and for that, I apologize.

vyper005, you need to relax. Being that angry and impatient all the time will kill you.

I understand how you feel, I had a SIG Sauer P229 .40 S&W that gave me an experience worse than yours. All I can say is that if that P229 had performed as well as your P99, I'd still have that P229. I've been there and I think you were too impulsive with regard to the guns abilities (in this case, inabilities;)). I have a P99 Military that doesn't like 115 grain 9mm ammo. should I trade it in because it stovepipes with 115 grain ammo but is 100% with 124 and 147 grain loads? It's your money (and heart attack), but when you post on a puplic forum you should understand that people will find your behavior odd and may even tell you you're being silly. Like I said, relax and keep shooting the bull.:D

VYPER-- I always have posted a negative report on my P99..Mine is a LEMON and I have never failed to tell of the problems on the net..I also mention (at times) the fact that the N.J. STATE POLICE went back to thier old HKs because of the P99 not being dependable..That's enough for me not to use that gun as a carry weapon..The main reason I don't get rid of it ,is that it gives me something to complain about..We all have our peculiarities..You like to find fault with many (GUNS) things..Me ,I'm happy with just one, for a long time..:D

I put about 1500 rounds through my P99QA within the last 8 months. I had one FTF within the first 100 rounds but then no problem since.

I'm not one to hang on to a gun I don't like either, but, I would at least give it 3-4 range sessions and one trip to the manufacturer for warrantee work. After that, then i would get rid of it.

It might just have needed to be broken in.

Wishbone,
The NJ State Police guns were "S & Wussies" not real Walthers...

Mr Pub.
Maybe I should have shot it more but I was way too pissed...

Gee Vype,
I'm sorry to hear that. I never had any problem with any of my P99's. (this one I have now is my second one) However, I have put it into the safe due to the fact that this durn single stack, left eject, heavy triggered Walther is grow'in on me daily!!!!:D I hope you find something you like!!!

Vyper,

Sorry to hear about your experiences with the P99. One of my P99's gave me the same problems in the first 200 rounds. I think it was my QPQ version. But it hasn't given me any problems since. The P99 does seem to need a breakin period. My first three had slide lock problems with in the first 100 rounds. The QPQ was the worst, taking around 200 rounds. All in all though I've had very good luck with all my P99's. I've never had a problem when it counts at the IDPA competition either. I guess I would have kept it a little longer to see what would have happened.

Vyper:

Very bad luck situation of yours. I got a brand new P99QA a month ago and must say that it have not given me any trouble yet. I can undertand your fury.

Sometimes there is one rotten apple.... :D

Get yourself a couple of nice Sigs or Glocks just to deal with your anger. :D

Kentucky:

This is way off topic, but I had to chime in. My experience with American vs. foreign cars (specifically Japanese) mirrors yours. Every GM vehicle I have ever owned has required major repairs. The last one was a Blazer that left me stranded three times in the year I owned it.

After three strikes it was out, and I swore I'd never own another American-branded car. I bought a new Subaru Forester, which has been perfect. I've had similar positive experiences with Toyotas and Mitsubishis.

You shouldn't feel too bad about buying Japanese-branded cars, because many of them are made here now, such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

Besides many of the people on this board prefer foreign-made pistols, so they can't really criticize our preference for foreign-made cars.

:D

My favorite pistol and all time carry gun had lots of FTF when I first bought it. I sent it back to the factory and it has been dang near perfect ever since. I was frustrated of course, but I had spent to much money to take a loss on it, and lucky for me all the problems were resolved. Now I love that thing, and carry it everday.

And I drive a Chevy Caprice. 175+ thousand miles and still doing just fine. But I'm one of the lucky ones. Next car will probably be a Honda. :p

I've driven GM products all my life, to this point. Don't know the number, but it's a bunch. A few well over a 125k miles. I have NEVER had a serious problem. Minor irritations at worst.

And since this IS a gun forum, I had one premature slide lock in the first 200 rounds on my P99 .40. None yet on my 9mm, but then I only shot 2 mags worth.

Shoot, I've had better luck with my GMs and Walthers than I have wives. Hmmmmmmmm?

I don't know Vyper!!

I've never had or seen one brand of firearm that always performed reliably, out of the box. Now this doesn't mean that singular guns don't, because my P99 Military and P99 QA have both performed without a glitch since day one. I've had and seen Glocks, SIGs, H&K's, Colts, S&W's, Kimbers and all others have problems, yet at the same time I've seen all of them perform flawlessly. Maybe it can be traced back to the car deal. They always say never buy a car that was made on Monday or Friday:rolleyes:

P99

vyper, i'm sorry that you had such a horrible experience with the p-99. how good is your r'ship with the gun shop you traded it in at?? i would recommend seeing if there is any that you might be able to put a couple hundred more rounds through it and see if it gets any better. while i didn't have any problems with mine out of the box, mine wasn't a .40, i have heard some folks talk about similar experiences to your's. and as far as the patience thing, if i figure it out i'll let ya know...but i hope you'll do the same.

On my very first handgun purchase I studied and studied, ultimately deciding on USP 9. After the purchase on the first 50 rds it jammed 4 times (FTF), then failed again about 3 or 4 times over the next 100 rds AND THEN...all the sudden it stopped and has been totally reliable the last several hundred with a variety of ammo. So let it break in before to sell it.

Also my other philosophy, I KEEP ALL GUNS I BUY. Even the lemons - I get them repaired.

So keep the P99.
