Just got rid of my new P99...

Some of you guys know that I dont have any patience when it come to guns...If something gives me a even a little hint of trouble,I'll get rid of it...Anyway...I picked up a brand new Walther P99 in 40cal in the ultra cool military green color about a month ago...I just fired the gun today and man was I really dissapointed...I shot 3 boxes thru the gun and had about 6 or 7 FTF's plus 3 or 4 times when the slide didnt lock back after the last round and 1 time when the slide was locked back,I put a fresh mag in and the slide just dropped and I didnt even hit the release !! The 2 stage trigger was a little weird as well...I also noticed that the gun rattled a little more after the 150rnds...I just kept saying to myself,"Damn,I cannot believe this...A 600 dollar gun shouldnt do this"...Keep in mind that my Walther was totally made in Germany so I cant blame it on the cheaper "S & Wussy" version...The funny thing is that I rented a regular 2 stage P99 & a "Quick Action" P99 at the range in both 9mm & 40cal about 3months ago and didnt have a single problem...And these guns were extremely dirty...Go figure...Maybe I just got a lemon who knows...Out of all the pistols I've owned in the past I have never encountered so many problems such as this...I was so pissed off that when I got back from shooting,I traded the gun in on a 40cal Sig 229(Two-Tone w/Siglites)...I still cant believe it...

Whats with you viper? You started hyping about this gun a month and a half ago. Your origonal post "who still likes their Walther p99's" is now a six page thread as a result of all your questions and concerns.
When you finally got your p99 it sat in your safe for over a month before you shot it. Now you have taken it to the range for the first time and suddenly it's a POS.
Yeesh

Wow Vyper

Vyper,

Aren't you the guy that traded a P225 after a week? Wish I had your money. :p Life's too short not to be happy with what you got. But, you might to think about starting a retirement account instead of giving all your cash to your local shop.:D

You'll like your P229, but if you don't, I'll give you what the shop will on your next trade.;)

My P99 in 9x19 is not my favorite handgun but it is almost as accurate as my 225 and has been 100% reliable. Sorry you had such bad luck Vyper

Mylhouse,
Thanks for the kind words...I'm sure that all your posts are the greatest...I'm just being honest,If I buy a gun and dont like it or it has problems I get rid rid of it...It's that simple...If the gun is a pos & not accurate I'll tell you...I dont keep it just because I paid alot of money for it...I lose some money but thats the price you pay...You rarely ever make money on used guns unless its an antique or some poor fool just paid alot more then its worth...I hyped the P99 all up cause it felt so damn nice in my hands...all the mag reports were good & everybody online loved theirs...I even rented a couple of P99's before I bought one just to make sure...It just didnt work out...

vyper, be prepared to sell a bunch of autos that you buy. You put 150 rounds through the gun and declared it a failure. Maybe nobody told you, but many auto pistols require a 300-500 round break in period before reliable functioning can be expected. That could be why the range guns worked better. This does not necessarily hold true for all autos, but most quality guns straighten out after a break in period. I happen to be considering a .40 cal P99 so if you happen to want to dump any other garbage guns in the future let me know, of course don't expect a LNIB price for a non-functioning POS even if it does say Walther on the side. ;)

Jeff,
Maybe you're right...Maybe the gun needed to be shot alot more...who knows...LIke I said, out of all the previous pistols I've owned I've never ever had that kinda problem....

Did you consider it might be an ammo problem or a magazine problem prior to trading it. I learned a long time ago about trading guns, now I just keep them. You take such a beating when you trade it's not worth the cost. Many guys have thought this way. The guns shops I go to have less and less used guns for this very reason. Walther would have fixed any problems you might have had for nothing. I will bet you lost about 200.00 to 250.00 on this gun not including the markup on the other gun you purchased.

Cocojo,
I used 2 different brands of ammo...PMC & Speer but in 3 different bullet weights...155,165 & 180's...I always alternate between mags just to make sure they both get a decent workout...I dont mind losing some money if I get something better in return...The whole point is to have the gun work from the start...Is that really too much to ask ?? I dont wanna have to call Wather & get the run around from some secretary or send my gun in & have them take about a month or two to fix it...Am I the only one who feels this way or am I the only one whos states it publicaly ??

Vyper-
I think you bailed out to soon. Its true some guns need to be broken in, some dont. P99s do, if you did any research on it, you probably wouldve come across many that say the first 200 rounds had a couple of hiccups. I had two slide lockbacks on loaded mags in the first 20 rounds I shot, Im not sure if I may have bumped the slide release or not, but since then its had no problems at all. It seems when I first got my P99, the trigger, slide both seemed very gritty and it wasnt smooth at all, but after dry firing a bit and about 300 more rnds, its much improved. The only thing thats slightly irked me about mine is that when its been chambered and decocked, and then I put it in SA mode by pulling the slide back the 3/8 inch needed, it takes a push on the rear of the slide to get it fully forward again. Who knows though, maybe thatll smooth out too.

Dr Heckel,
Who knows..Maybe I just get more pissed then the average person...Patience is not one of my strong suits...

Of all of the European gun makers, Walther is not my favorite.

They never seemed to have caught on around here.

I'll stick to Glock, Sig, HK, CZ, or EAA.

Geez Louise, Vyper, at least let the gun have a chance to get broken in, first!

Do you trade a car if it burns some oil in its first 15,000 miles, or do you let it break in first and let the rings seat to the cylinder walls?

Cocojo...

I understand completely about you not trading bad guns in. If I happen to buy a "true stinker" I refuse to let someone else get stuck with it. My main fear is looking myself in the mirror if someone bought my stinker and got hurt because the pistol jammed and he was unable to return fire. The only way that I would trade in a badly functioning pistol would be if I told and trusted the shop owner not to just resell it to someone without doing the work to make it 100%. Sometimes a conscience is a hell of a thing. It cost's you money, but I'd rather be out the money than have to shave wihout looking at myself in the mirror. :)

KaChing!

The other day I did some math of all the cash I've lost on horse trading. When I was done I suddenly realized I could'a had a HK P7M8 by now!

All of us have lost cash. If you care for some advice, try not to be too impulsive.. I don't believe a quality tool needs to be broken in but the owner needs to get familiar with the piece. That takes at least 500 rounds. Be patient.:p
