Just got a new to me Remington 1100!!

Just thought id share my new to me Remington 1100. I traded an AR15 Upper Receiver minus the BCG & CH for this early 1980s beauty, What a deal!!

I gave it a comolete dissassembly, cleaning, lubing and reassembly and I could not believe how easy it was to accomplish this task. I feel like this weapon system was made just for me, HaHa!!

Ok, I wanna make some uogrades like more roubds in the magazine... Anyone have any recommendations for this as well as other upgrades available to increase rhe exoerience and function of this shotgun?? Thank You.

A few months ago I scored an older 1100 at the local pawn shop.

I got it home, disassembled it and gave it a good cleaning. The recoil spring and tube was REALLY crudded up and probably would have caused the gun to malfunction it was so bad.

I took it out shooting and like it's legacy, its a soft shooter.

I also replaced the plastic butt plate with a rubber recoil pad to reduce sliding on the shoulder and comfort of shooting.

Thats awesome! I havent shot this yet but it seems like a great shooting shotgun from what ive read about it. Remington hasnt let me down yet, I got a 700 5r milspec in .308 and everything I read about that gun was fantastic and when I shot it recently I gotta say they were wrong... its befter than what has been said about it! I look forward to enjoying this shotgun and getting into skeet shooting and maybe 3 gun!

I think the 1100 is quite possibly the greatest autoloader ever produced. Enjoy it...

Don't know about but they have always been my favorite. At one time, I owned four and down to one, in 20Ga. .... :)

Im proud to own one.. I have several handguns and rifles but havent got into shotguns yet so its time.. I cant wait to blast off some shells. Thanx Guys.
 
There's plenty of after market stuff and accessories for the 1100.
It's been around a long time and deservedly so.
Just look at the usual sources, like midwayusa, brownells, 'etc.
 
the 1100 changed the face of autoloaders. Wayne Leek and his design team at Remington get all the credit. They brought the gas-powered autoloader to the world of skeet shooting. Quite possibly the softest shooting auto produced. Beretta and Browning have come close...
 
The only thing positive you can do to modify your 1100 is to have interchangeable choke tubes installed in it. Every other mod will be a step in the wrong direction. 1100's fit most people well and shoot well. Don't screw it up with a bunch of tactical garbage. You now own a classic shotgun.
 
The best extended mag for an 1100 is a Filson strap vest. Put a box of shells in each pocket, and thumb them in as you shoot to top off. I've never seen a zombie pheasant infestation that couldn't handle!
 
Good job. My oldest one is 50 this year. A lot of semi auto shotguns have come and gone at my house, but the 1100 is still my favorite.
I had a very interesting conversation with Wayne Leek many moons ago. He was a smart guy and a real gentleman.
 
My father bought a 12 ga Rem 1100 modified choke shotgun 50 years ago.

I own a number of them now. I got one at a gun show in January 2013 for $120. Others said there were no deals at that gun show, but don't just find deals, I make deals happen.

The catch was that it did not work. Rust and dirt. I took it apart, cleaned and oiled it, and now it works. It was made in May of 1963, which is a couple months older than my father's.
I have one from Dec 1979, that has much nicer wood, like Flea21's 1100.

As the great senator Phil Gramm often said about his buying old shotguns, "I own more shotguns than I need, but not as many as I want."

I like it... I want one from 1981 if it can be found... Make the deal happen buddy and I will take it!
 
That Rem 1100 for $120, that did not work, turned out to have a lot of dirt in it.

That Rem 11 for $50, that DID work, turned out to have a lot of rust in it.

Congrats on the new toy. I love my 20 gauge Model 1100 Special Field. Fits me like it was custom made, and has never failed to feed or fire. .
 
Nice, I have had but just recently inherited my Dad's 1100 from mid 80's. I had it pulled out but did not shoot it yet. I think it was probably in the mid 80's the last time it was shot. For some reason he just never took it out shooting?

Anyway, I looked at your picture of fully disassembled and I am going to do the same - looks complicated but you guys said it was not that hard. It is in good shape but think it might be a little dirty from sitting around for so long.

One question, there was a Remington 12g barrel in the safe too, but I am not sure if it was a replacement barrel or what? How do I know what this barrel is for? I am afraid my Dad did not tell me everything about his gun collection.
 
Post a picture of the barrel and we can probably ID it. If it looks just like the barrel on the gun, then you will already know. Go to Remington.com and download an owner's manual and read it. Several tidbits in there that can save you some grief. Like don't drop the hammer with the trigger group out of the gun without holding it with your thumb.
