Just for Fun - How long would it take for a new house guest to peg you as a gun guy?

All depends on weather or not you have NRA and Browning decals on the back window of your pickup. If so about 3 seconds if he's slow to talk a hint

very little outward around the house surprisingly about the only thing would be the coexist sticker in the back window of my truck n Bronco

I keep some lower cost and midrange electric guitars and amplifiers visible... Thieves would take those distractions and probably not find the well disguised gun safe

It would take them quite a while to figure it out in my house. All the guns in my house are out of sight and locked up. The biggest sign would be the range I have in my back yard, but even that is not visible from the house as it is hidden by trees.

If one is given the nickel tour, the safe in the master suite is a dead giveaway. Walking past the library, if one notices what books are contained within, that would likely give it away. Magazine rack in the john would be another, as would be the latest issue of First Freedom, generally on a side table. Barring that, conversation will likely rat me out within an hour, or so.

In my earlier post in this thread, I mentioned that our house was burglarized, while we slept upstairs. What I didn't mention, was what was taken: a laptop (thieves failed to take power cord), a fairly inexpensive wristwatch, some knickknacks that were on the windowsill through which they entered cops surmised they were afraid of leaving fingerprints since the stuff had to be moved).

The walked maybe 25 feet total in the house, from point of entry to the computer. What they didn't take was anything from my extensive Civil War collection (easily above 5 figure value), nor any other of the stuff of real value. Cops said druggies looking for a quick sale.

I have a smash and grab lock box by the bed with a wrench or something in it and two dead laptops in my office.

Drugs are out of control. Way out of control. My solution is making addiction a positive defense. If you get caught dealing, if you do not prove you are an addict, you go to jail forever, and I mean 20 years and a day. I have some sympathy for the addicts, I have none for those just turning a buck.

He/she may never have a clue. There are no guns in the open.

If the guest asks about the tornado shelter that's another matter. In the back, tied into the 8" thick reinforced concrete walls is an 8,000 pound safe with walls of 3/8" armor plate. It's filled with guns. :D

Magazines (paper, not metal or plastic) and wildlife art on first floor walls would probably reveal my interests in hunting and shooting. Trophies on the finished basement walls would confirm it. (I don't advertise my interests on my vehicles or on the exterior of my home - no hunting stickers, no NRA stickers, no signs, etc.)

Thallub, you got serious with the rebar, didn't you?

I've seen some overhead slabs in that thickness reinforces with smaller, DIY rebar, only in two offset layers 3" apart. It certainly works.

Before they get to the front porch, as you come on to my property there is a sign " smile you are now in range." next you come into view of my front yard/ shooting range.

If guests stay in the living room, kitchen, dining room, or pool deck (a lot of our entertaining is on the latter) they will see nothing. If they are invited into the man cave, the walls are decorated with vintage heirloom tools along with a few tin signs relating to firearms that would indicate an interest if they think about it, but also kind of fit into the decor. It also has a reloading stand, which is of course a major give-away if someone knows what it is, but lots of people wouldn't know a reloading press from a wine press. The gun safe, range bags, ammo shelves, and such things are all behind closet doors. Close friends and trusted relatives know where they are, but someone peeking in the windows wouldn't see them at all.

I have about 20 steel ammo cans on the living room floor, right in front of you when you walk in. I suppose if you don't know what ammo cans are, you still might be clueless for about 2 minutes until I say "wanna see my guns?".
