Just for discussion, your favorite deer cartridge.

That would be the cartridge my only deer rifle is chambered in... .25-06 Remington. The rifle is a Interarms Mark X sporter with a figured english walnut thumbhole stock. My uncle and his best friend put the rifle together in 1973.

Favorite deer cartridge.

Favorite is 6.5 Grendel in the 120 grain Nosler ballistic tips. (Grendel doesn't have a wide range of factory loads yet.)

Second favorite is .243 Winchester in the cheap Winchester silver box 100 grain softpoints.

I've hunted with a 280 Remington this year, a 300 Win last year, a 300 WBY year before that. They all work fine. I think I will stick with the 280. I've had this rifle for 30 years and if it was the only rifle I had ever had I suspect the number of deer and elk harvested would be the same.

I tend to hunt mostly with military calibers because I can get cheap plinking ammo and get dual use out of the rifles I own. I am partial to the 303 British. I use Remington 180 gr Core Lokt SP's. I have also hunted with 308 (Lee Enfield) and 30-06 (M1 Garand). I have a Marlin 30-30 that I have been using as of late. I use Remington 170 gr Core Lokts out of that rifle.
I have to say out of all the rifles I own, that 303 Enfield of mine with that 180 grain load really flattens the deer better than the other guns I use.

Deer cartridge

I used to carry a Browning BBR 7mm Rem Mag, I finally decided that it's too damn heavy if I'm going to be walking much. I have a Ruger .308 that is really light and handy if I'm packing in. Most of the time I use my Weatherby 30.06. Moderate weight, very accurate.

I'm with Daryl. I wished I never sold my Rem 700BDL Rem 7MM Rem Mag. It was a deer buster. I sure do miss it. Maybe one day soon I will have to buy another one to fill my pain. ;)

I sure do like my Rem 700BDL 25-06. It does the job and shoots fantastic with not a lot of recoil.
