Just bought first Kahr - have a few questions...

I contacted Kahr about installation of the Elite trigger on my K-40 stainless and was instructed to send the pistol along with $85.00 to the factory. I have not done this yet because my understanding is that the difference between the standard trigger and the Elite trigger is a mere 1/4 inch of pull length. This does not sound like a significent improvement to me for the cost but I might be wrong.

Since I switch back and forth between the Kahr and a custom combat Colt .45 ACP I find the long pull double action Kahr trigger hard to master . . . but I'm working on it!

Blade-Tech makes great Kydex IWB holsters for Kahrs.

I have never fired a Kahr with the Elite trigger. Can someone explain how it differs from the standard Kahr DAO?

FUD,

Do you live in Margate or Coral Springs maybe? Map looks real familiar. I grew up in Lighthouse Point. Graduated from Deerfield Beach a long time ago. Did a lot of duck hunting in Loxahatchee (spelling?).

I don't live anywhere near a swamp...live in the highland Appalachians. The only postulate reason my Kimber started rusting is probably due to the use of Tetra oil and grease. The rust appeared mostly on the exterior barrel and chamber, and the interior slide. The frame remained clean. After a de-rusting and cleaning and lubrication with RemOil and CLP, the gun has remained spot-free. Since then I stopped using the Tetra stuff, and voila, no more rust. I had since rid myself also of that E9. No regrets.

Otherwise the Kimber is a wonderful pistol, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Good luck!

John Forsyth:

I live in what used to be called Bonadventure -- they changed the name about a year ago to Weston. I'm new to the area and still trying to get adjusted to the heat (I'm use to sub-zero temperatures in the winter -- not the mid-80's). I found a pretty good outdoor range less than a half an hour away from me. Are there any good indoor ranges near me? Please advise.

If you're still in this area, maybe we can go shooting one day. Send me e-mail at fudal@net-lynx.com.

Spleenandideal--

Thanks for the post. It just so happens that I use RemOil and I like it a lot. By the way, I went to the range yesterday and rented a Kimber Classic Custom. Holy Cow! Talk about punching out the X ring! I always thought I was a fairly decent shot with my Glock and Beretta, but that Kimber sure was a confidence builder. However, I still want to try out a Para Ordnance and Springfield just to make a consumer wise decision.

Back to Kahrs...
Anyone out there seen, shot, own a Kahr P9 yet? I'm really curious....

Hydejam,

Funny that you should mention it but I saw & handled (didn't shoot it though) the Kahr P9 just about an hour ago at the gun store. It is much lighter than the K9 (I held one in each hand), and I'm curious how much more of a kick it will have. By the way, I've been a little bit disappointed with my P14-45.

Well, after a long, agonizing 10-day wait, I picked up my MK9 today! After playing with it for a while, I noted the following observations:

1) The trigger pull was a bit long. No biggie - something I'm sure I'll get used to with practice. I think an Elite trigger might be helpful (I think that a 1/4" shorter pull would be noticeable).

2) Looking down at the muzzle, I noticed the unusual fit between the barrel and the slide. The barrel isn't even close to being centered in the much larger opening in the slide. Has anyone noticed this? I'm sure it doesn't affect the functioning of the gun, but it just looks sloppy. The barrel just seems to "sit" at the uncentered at the bottom of the opening.

3) The cheap plastic guide rod, which also doesn't seem to sit "center". I can wiggle it with my finger.

4) Very heavy pring. Requires quite a bit of muscle to rack the slide. Another thing I'm sure I'll get used to.

5) Very difficult to disengage slide release.

I plan on taking it the the range this weekend to break it in. I'll report my findings.

I carry a MK9 for backup while on duty. I have large hands, so I slid on the small size "hogue" with finger groove grips. The finger grove and palm swells make it feel perfect. Also aids in recoil control. Great gun.
