Just bought a NIB Browning Hi-Power...WOW

I, too, have a BHP Practical which I have not shot in years. Looking at Mr. Wickman's work makes me envious. Now I'm thinking of sending mine out for some custom work. Can somebody give me his number or website?

Thanks ...

Well, the real test is how it shoots and functions. I haven't shot it yet but from looking at the pistol I have every reason to believe it will shoot as nice as it looks.

I hope to do a detailed report as soon as I can give it a good workout.

Kurt Wickmann's website is http://www.kwgw.com/
Phone: 740-593-8645

I believe the Hi-Power featured on his website belongs to fellow TFL'er bk40 also. I had already sent mine off to Kurt when I read his reviews of his work; but it was a great comfort to know that someone else liked his work.

You should confirm this, but I believe the current price on factory mags (mec-Gar) is about $69 each. So how many more do you want at $45 per?

Bartholomew, yep, thats my HP at Kurts site :D

beautiful HiPower you got there! Kurts work is 2nd to none!

for my complete review click here.

New MecGars are running $69 apiece as I picked up a couple from Alpha Trading Post a few weeks ago.

Git_Some, any of those $45 mags left?

Anyone have a practical with the front sight
a bit cockeyed? I've one with a fixed rear sight.

This is the long front sight with the white line down the center. Instead of the front sight having clock hands at 6 and 12 it's more like one hand at 2 minutes til 12 and the other hand pointing two minutes to 6. Not sure if it's the sight or a front sight dove tail cut at an angle, but either way a shorter more verticle blade would fix 90% of the problem.

Also, is there a difference between pre and post ban practicals other than the mag capacity? Mine's pre ban as are the extra browning mags. Is BATF claiming that if you put a high cap mag in a post ban HiPower you're making an illegal combination?

What are NIB browning marked 13 round mags worth now anyway?

Craig Spegel <-Knows best how to dress the queen. Or the Spiegel grips sold through Brownells. I put a set of the Ebony ones on my HP practical and they feel as great as they look.
Don't sweat the price too much. Mine ran about the same retail, but the real price I paid was distorted by 2 different trades. I figure mine cost me around $800.00 when the loss was factored in on the other guns. Bottom line was the other 2 were dreadful and I really didn't care for them. Luv the HP though. I figured I got the better part of the deal in the end.

Hello. I think that factory pre-bans go from between about $65 and $75 each. You can legally use pre-ban high caps in your Practical; they work fine. At the federal level,it is no violation although in some idiotic states, it's against the "law" to even be in possession of high cap magazines.
One of the better deals I've seen lately has been the high cap South African magazines that hold 17 rnds. These were going for about $29 each from CDNN. I've bought and tested four. Three worked perfectly from the get go; one hung up one time, but I think it could be cause it was new. All worked fine with ball ammo or JHPs with ball-like ogives.
Best.

Richard: would you recommend the Ahrends grips over the Spegels then? I have seen the Ahrends in Brownells. Which provides the slimest profile, or are they about the same?

Also, you mentioned before that you have a pretty good gunsmith who performs trigger jobs on Hi-Powers. Who is this, and where are they? What is the standard cost of getting a Hi-Power trigger tuned to, say, 2 1/2 pounds or so?

Martowski: From what I understand, it is very difficult to get a Hi-Power trigger to less than 4.5lbs. without having problems (such as the hammer following). That being said, I think Cylinder & Slide makes a special linkage to go with their trigger and sear that will let you get the trigger as lower than that. It requires drilling some new holes on the gun as well.
