Junk guns

A lot of times we get customers that come in with broken pretty much junk guns... like others have said we usually try to salvage parts... but sometimes we like to have a little fun with them.

I have a nice lamp made out of a .303 British. I'll have to get pics sometimes. Gave the kid 10$ for it. Another 10$ at Home depot and the dollar store made a nice lamp.:o

I have a Stevens 77 that does that. I think I've almost got it fixed but it's almost halfway to being a lamp.:D

Does Numrich still buy junk guns for parts?

If it's worth $50-100 as a "parts gun", don't expect an offer greater than $5-10 from Numrich. They pay pennies on the dollar. And you still have to figure out what to do with the frame/receiver.

I forgot to mention... generally we just tell people to deactivate them... and make some nice looking wall hangers.

I've always wondered whether it was "legal" to simply destroy a junk gun by melting it into a worthless chunk of ZAMAK or cutting it up so that there is no chance it could ever be used again?

Of course it's legal,,,
It's simply property.

What you can't do is toss an un-working gun,,,
At least in states that require registration.

I know this because a friend got popped in California,,,
He tossed a non-functioning revolver in a landfill,,,
Someone found it and turned it in to the cops,,,
They traced it back to him and he was fined.

Skans, I had an old CM-9/11 that would not work correctly. I gutted it and the rest is in my scrap pile.

If I ever need a piece of steel for welding, it may come in use. (Probably the only thing it was ever good for anyway!) It is my gun and I can dispose of it as I want to. Just so long as I make sure no one is ever threatened with that piece of crap, I do not think anyone will ever say anything.

How much do they usually pay for a gun buyback?

It depends on the location. I don't think I've ever seen them give less than $50 though. At times they will give gift cards or tickets to concerts/sporting events etc. instead of cash.

I took lots of cash in case I found someone getting to turn in a really good gun. I figured I'd offer them $100 instead of the $50 or what ever. I never saw anything being turned in that was worth even half what they were paying. Most were non-functional.

It seems everyone was doing the same as me, getting rid of junk guns.

I know that if you are destroying the gun, there really is no more gun, but in the process, aren't you also destroying the serial number? I thought there was some law (could be wrong) that prohibits the destruction of serial numbers on guns - or does that only pertain to operable guns?

Wait for another gun buy-back. Get some cash and buy a new gun.

Knowing that these guns are run by antis, I just don't think I could do it. Besides, in my area they have got from giving you "cash" to giving you a walmart gift certificate for shoes. No thanks!

The fact that they are run by anti-gunners encourages me to use them. Smart gun owners understand that they are draining their resources, they can then use the money to buy better guns. Gun buybacks are a win-win situation. They make anti-gunners feel good, and most of the folks turnng in guns are folks just like me. Getting rid of junk and using the money to upgrade.

Even if it is a $50 gift card from Walmart I can always buy $50 in groceries. That frees up $50 from my budget toward a better gun, or ammo for guns I already have.

If they were giving away tickets to a Janet Jackson concert I'd probably pass.

Well the last thing I will do is give in to the gun buy back programs, sorry I would rather keep it! Is there a good way to find out how to do gun project? Could some of the Glock parts work for a Sigma :o?

If you don't already have a "parts" drawer, you've got a good start on one.

Not everyplace has gun 'buy-backs'.

If I had to wait for one of those, I'd be waiting for a long while.

Best,

Will

I just don't understand why you don't call out S&W on there life time Warranty for the Sigma.

Please explain, did it get ran over by a tank?

Don't even think about a buy-back program, all that does is enable the gun-banners to spout about '1,014 guns off the street in our city' and engender support for their cause, from personal egos to corporate donors and politicians.

You'll find a buyer on Gunbroker or something.
