Jolly old England.... It's all so clear now.

Now we know why Britain got rid of all personal firearms. AP 5/11/00 article
states that the British Gov't plans to set up a multimillion dollar spy center
capable of tracking EVERY e-mail and internet hit in the country. To be known
as Government Technical Assistance Center. "The bill creates a new offense -
not providing this information to the Government." It will be established
as part of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Bill, expected to become
law this fall. The bill also gives law enforcement authorities the power to
demand that Internet users hand over the keys to decode encrypted messages.
......
Anyone in favor of limiting personal firearms should think about this.

This world will see bloodshed en masse in the future. These socialists will continue to push us all into their "thinking box" until it bursts. One day, the people will have had enough. England, the US, who knows where it will start but I believe it is inevitable. It's as plain as day but no one seems to see it coming.

Ami I alone in this sentiment?

We are heading there quickly.

NRA? Good. Now joing the GOA!

I agree that the revolution against "Big Brother" will happen eventually. I just don't think that it will happen in the U.S. first. Our English and Australian brothers are much more repressed than we are.

Of course, most of them are disarmed...

Who's "disarmed?" Take away every weapon I own, and I would still be just as dangerous. As long as I have a mind, I can rebel against oppression. If my body is taken from me, I can teach others.

Actualy, I am at a total loss as to why the English haven't rebelled allready. The laws they have in place now are beyond reason. And our "representatives" want very badly to duplicate those laws.

I have read before about the US Government paying the British Government to spy on the internet on behalf of the US government
because it is illegal and unconstitutional for the US government to spy on the internet
itself.

It is , or so it seems, legal for the US gov to pay the British gov to do the spying on US citizens that it is illegal for the US gov to do for itself.

Now lets say, a private citizen wanted to rob a bank but it is illegal for him to do
this , so he hires a crew to rob the bank for him. This is still ilegal and the principal is still libel for his agents actions.

What makes it ok for the government to do but illegal for a private citizen???

We should all be screaming bloody hell about this; but I guess most of us just dont
care one whit about it.

Britain has been riddled with communists for a long, long time, additionally, the concept of the sovereign citizen is ours. Over there, the Crown is ultimately sovereign. Add to that well spoken condescension for all things American from trendy lefties who infest the media, the universities, and entertainment biz, and well, you've got a police state waiting in the wings.
It's entering, now, stage left.

Britain's turned into just another country. If we're not careful, (read alert and suspicious,) it'll happen to us too. It breaks my heart.

Munro:

re well spoken condescension for all things from trendy lefties who infest the media, the universities, and entertainment biz,

This sounds suspiciously like...AMERICA. Universities are a bastion of left-wing idiots who haven't set foot in reality in YEARS. The media and entertainment elite too.

Looks like James Bond will be concentrating his efforts on domestic discord instead of fighting Smert-Shipanov. Ahh, where is Beria when we need him?

Covert Mission:
I only got to the first section which stated that communications monitoring was the most important weapon in the fight against serious crime. Couldn't stomach any more.
Anyone who could write such drivel would be cozy and warm in the loving embrace of the Gastopo or NKVD and rates the same contempt.
This is meant to set up an even more paranoid intelligence stranglehold over the citizenry, not to to protect them from criminals.
I would not be surprised if this government that we now suffer is involved at some level.

Last night (Thursday 12 May), I heard a "Professor" (missed his name) on the Australian Broadcasting Commission, talking about how "the Internet MUST be regulated" and it could not be left "UNCHECKED". He also said that committees "worldwide" were looking at ways of creating a single, worldwide regulatory body through which all Net material would be filtered/approved/disapproved.

The reasoning? It was "dangerous" for the Net to contain material that was "unregulated" -- and he specifically said he wasn't just talking about porn.

Perhaps the UK is just a trial to test the feasibility? As you are aware, my (Australian) government has passed censorship laws regarding the Internet already. Since the begiining of the year, some 56 sites have been forcibly shut down. Thought the govt will say the majority of them are not porn, they will not tell us what they are(were) or who they are(were).

Welcome to 2001.

CMOS, I agree with you,But I'm not certin it will happen in my lifetime? People in this country are to dumb, fat and happy right now.
And the few of us which, are really a minority I believe, really don't stand a chance. I hope to god I'm wrong but this is the way I see it. :(
This s*** is going to continue to run downhill on top of us

Supposedly, the UK government, though it will monitor all the e-mail, can only "read" it if it has a warrent.

Yeah right.

Weirdly, this morning my genetics teacher mentioned in class that all e-mail and phone conversations are monitored for key words, and if the words pop up, the message is saved, or the conversation is monitored.

BTR, you are correct. Your instructor was referring to Project Echelon, recently detailed on 60 Minutes. ALL communications (email AND voice), both in the U.S. and around the world, are CONTINUOUSLY monitored, and of certain "keywords" are found, these communications are "red flagged" for detailed analysis.

Enough "red flags", and the person is "investigated". This is no BS, but the real thing! Today. Now. As we "speak".

As a matter of fact, my mentioning of the title of this spying has red-flagged this post, and it WILL be looked at by someone in our govt. The list of keywords is hundreds long.

Orwell would be proud....

What if everybody just included a list of those words in every email and every post. Wouldn't that overload the system?

Allah, bomb, clinton, ... etc
