Jo-Ann's Stores Posted Against CCW's

In Washington State...

Conceal means concealed.

These signs hold no water or legal standing for law abiding citizens in Washington State. Please note I see this was from TN.

Meaning you can carry legally even with this sign posted. Now if they do find out you have a firearm they are also totally within their rights to ask you to leave... failure can cause you some headache if you do not abide by their wishes.

But going in you are legally not breaking any Washington State laws.

Also I find that national or even within regional chains... every store will be a bit different on how they "enforce" their own store national/region policies.

Now do note I am talking about Washington State as some states... this can mean a no carry area... even for those that have a permit/license to conceal carry in that state.

In the article is says that it is Jo Annes policy to post these signs on their stores that are in states with Concealed Carry laws.

I was at the one in Winchester a few weeks back with my wife, didn't see any signs and we were both carrying. I guess they didn't get the memo.

Some are posted in Ohio, . . . some are not, . . . yet.

You can figure real quick and real easy which ones I patronize, . . . and which ones I do not. :)

May God bless,
Dwight

How often do you goto fabric stores? ;)

I like how they ignored all of your points and said [paraphrased] "the sign is posted because that is our policy" (basically, we don't care about the facts because we've already made a decision)

How often do you goto fabric stores?

Well if you shoot a muzzle loader you will go there more than you think;)

But aside from guns I frequent craft shops with SWMBO all the time. I will go to the Jo Anne's in Columbia and see if they are posted.

I have an older friend that I fly R/C with, and he went into the local JoAnne's Fabrics store to get some material to make a wing bag with..

He said it was like a feeding frenzy of retiree women trying to "help" him, giving him coupons, etc.

But as far as concealed carry goes (getting back on topic) that's unfortunate..

Fortunately, all my fabric purchases are already assembled ... but I'll make sure the missus doesn't shop with them. If they don't like armed citizens, they won't like us ...

Thats my thought too as in a sign who cares what a sign says. They are probably not even legal on the state revised stats on what they need to say anyways.

I'm not going to buy another gun at Jo-Ann's ever again! :D

What does bother me is gun stores that try to ban concealed carry but that's another topic.....

I agree with everyone- they way I see it, the only way a business can legitimize(sp?) having a "no-CCW" rule is to have armed security guards to facilitate the deficit- hence the SRO's at high schools, colleges, sometimes hospitals, you get my point. Jo-Ann fabrics AND my local movie theater can't refund people's deaths from a possible situation where a firearm may be needed. :p

I think I entered a Jo-Ann's for the first time this afternoon -- wife ran short on material for new curtains she's making, and I could either go to store to purchase the additional material or stay home with the grandkids while she did the same. I chose to go shopping(!) But I did remember this thread and looked closely for any such postings at the local store -- none to be seen. So I guess I can continue to shop at Jo-Ann's with a clear conscience...

What amazes me is that there are people in this world who actually think a robber or wanna-be mass murderer will be on the verge of committing his crime, spot that stupid sign, and say, "Darn it! They don't allow guns in here! Oh, well...", and then leave. Such thinking is beyond absurd; can't you just imagine the criminal's victims screaming [as they're being robbed or shot]: "This isn't right! You can't have that gun in here! DIDN'T YOU SEE THE SIGN?!"

It's not really the robber. In part, the stores are told by their liability vultures that if there is a critical incident in the store and a customer accidentally shoots the wrong person in a robbery or a legal carrier goes nuts in their store - they can be sued for allowing such.

They are probably immune for not letting you carry and defend yourself. We've discussed that before.
