Jim March in trouble in California.

Thanks for the link, sm. I was much more worried about Jim March before reading it.
San Diego's election officials picked this fight, not me. You don’t trample my civil rights without consequences.
He has a good plan to yank their chain. Remind me not to trample Jim's civil rights. ;)

A fair number of 'em over on Democratic Underground seem to be kicking themselves that it was a Republican that took this step
Well, he'd better get some support form the Dems before its too late. In Kali they are the ones running the show. :(

Just read at THR the charges against Jim has been dropped though the DA reserves the right to refile. Jim says he isn't easily intimidated. :D

I would think that even though the charge has been dropped, Jim still has standing for civil liability actions against the County.

If the charges have been dropped, exactly what was it that caused the DA to bring them in the first place. What caused him or her to drop them? He or she presumably thought they had solid grounds on which to go, for bringing FELONY charges, respecting the downside potential for the individual in case of a conviction, is very serious business, or so I would think.

That business about reserving the right to refile sounds like a threat, sort of saying We might have stepped on our collective dick, however we can still make trouble for you, if you don't fold your tent and quietly disappear.

Respecting such civil action as Jim might try to bring against the county, I would certainly think that he had "standing", after all, felony charges are serious business, and they had been laid, hadn't they? Of course, being that I'm simply a retired draftsman, what do I know, given that I still subscribe to the archaic theory that 2 + 2 = 4.

Re the foregoing, the following might be germane, or amusing, maybe neither, but I shall go on anyway. Last night, I saw The Professionals on tape, borrowed from my local library. Nice place that. Anyhow, last scene, after having sent Palance and Cardinelle battered but unbowed back to Mexico, Lee Marvin is confronted by the arch villian of the piece, the guy who hired The Professionals to recover his allegedly kidnapped wife, who it turns out had actually run off to be with her old lover, that's Jack Palance by the way. "You bastard" opines Ralph Bellamy, the villian. Lee Marvin sort of grunts, and responds "Yes sir", while swinging himself into his saddle. "In my case, a mere accident of birth. You sir, are a selfman man", he offers, before riding off into the setting sun, or toward Mexico. Never mind geographical discrepancies between south and west.
