Jesse Jackson Challenges GA’s Stand Your Ground Law

Here’s a little update on Jesse Jackson’s lawsuit against Georgia’s Stand Your Ground law.

Apparently the attorneys representing the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition failed to properly serve the defendants with the law suit. Consequently Georgia Carry has asked that the law suit be dismissed. The plaintiffs claim they served the governor and attorney general by mail, but may have sent it to the wrong location and asked for an extension to re-serve them.

It makes you wonder if they really intended to go through with this or if they are just looking for some free publicity.

At the risk of sounding like a snickerpuss, that's not how one serves papers. I may not be a big-city lawyer guy, but aren't those supposed to be sent certified mail or served in person?

I think a snickerpuss sounds like "you're not yourself when you're hungry!"
:D

As to sending the papers to the wrong address? Really? Your lawyers can't get the address for a state GOVERNOR? A state Attorney General? Aren't they official and matters of record?

You are binging suit to argue a fine point of law, and your lawyers can't get the address of the Governor? I hope they are working pro bono for you cause they sure aren't earning any money they are making.

I agree, the whole thing is for show, and to get and keep their name (and goals) in the public eye. I don't doubt their lawyers will go to court, if it gets that far, AND if they can find the address of the court building

I doubt they ever had any expectations of success in court, success in the media is enough to keep them in business. And I feel that's all they really care about, no matter what they say in public.

Today a Federal Judge granted the State of Georgia’s request that the law suit be dismissed since the plaintiffs never actual served the defendants. Attorneys for the state also asked that the court sanction attorney Robert Pattilo since this is the second suit he has filed against Stand Your Ground laws without actually serving the lawsuit. The Judge declined to sanction him and stated that he is free to refile the suit.
