Jennings Firearm 9mm Any Good?

If price is a factor and you want something that is inexpensive and has proven to me to be reliable and fairly accurate, check out the Hi-Point pistols. I know that a lot here will, to use a British term, poo-poo, my suggestion, but for around $100 you can get a, IMHO, a reliable 9mm pistol.

The Jennings is poorly designed in terms of aerodynamics. After it fails to function, most people will not be able to aim properly when they hurl it towards their enemy. Even Sandy Koufax or Greg Maddux would probably have a hard time hitting their enemy with a hurled Jennings.

The Jennings makes a rotten melee weapon as well.

If you absolutely cannot afford anything else (e.g. you have exactly the amount needed to buy it and cannot afford to spend another 50 bucks), or if there are no other firearms in your area except for that Jennings, then I guess you would have no choice to buy it.

Garbage guns beat no guns at all, but if you can afford to scrape up another 50-100 bucks, you should be able to find an Eastern European Makarov, or a used Kel-Tec. These guns are quality pieces, and would serve you much more reliably.

Please, when it comes to your life, don't skimp.

In a word, No. Not good at all. I suggest the following if money is a consideration

1. Makarov of any nationality, preferably East German if you can find one, but any of the other countries that made it will work just as well, in .380 or the original 9x18mm can be had for about $99-$150

2. PA-63, Closer to the Walther PP/PPK design than the Makarov, also chambered in 9x18 or .380. Can be had for $89-$125

3. Ruger P series, may be large and bulky but 100% reliable, can be had for $225-$350

4. FEG PJK-9HP, this is a Hungarian copy of the Browning Hi Power, get one that says imported by KBI, as these are the ones that are 100% FN/Browning compatible when it comes to parts and accessories, I can attest to these personally, as I own one, no complaints. Can be had for about $225-$275

5. S&W Model 10, I know this is a revolver, but the price and reliablity makes it worth mention, chambered in .38 Special, a time tested weapon, can be had for $125-$250

1.Bulgarian Makarov
2.FEG (several models are very sweet, but i'm partial to the FP-9 or P9RZ)
3.If you want a reliable full size American made pistol, get the compensated 9mm Hi-Point.
All of these are inexpensive, reliable handguns IMHO!

I actually owned a Jennings J-22, it was given to me many years ago. It was such a lousy gun that I finally cut it up and trashed it. I couldn't bear the thought of selling to some poor unsuspecting soul. It is, quite obviously, the only gun I've ever owned that got that treatment! You honestly couldn't give me another Jennings of any caliber.
