I am considering getting an AFFORDABLE and reliable 9mm gun for practicing and backup when needed and Jennings seem attractive (price:) ) but I need inputs/suggestions from you experienced and knowledgeable folks be4 I make a move.

I'll second the Used ruger P95 or P89. The Jennings is the yugo of guns.
There are many 9mm's that are inexpesive but of much better quality then the Jennings.
The Makarov is another way to go. Low price and a well made pistol.

I dont own a jennings..had a 22 years ago. I know all of the hooplah about jenning/saturday night specials. But, I have heard
decent to great things about the 9mm. I dont know about ammo types it likes or accuracy..but they have a reputation for being dependable. That is all I can tell you....

Also, consider the makarov..IT IS A GOOD GUN.

Shoot well

My next door neighbor has a Jennings .380.

Its only good for 2 things, 1) teaching one how to clear a jam (because it's going to at least once every 3 rounds) and 2) it makes a damn fine paperweight :)

I have to throw my support behind a Makarov too ... in expensive and well made, and some of them are very accurate too.

Absolutely EVERYTHING that Jennings puts out is crap. I would very much advise you to stay away from these guns. They unreliable, cheaply made, and are questionable when it comes to safety.

If case you haven't guessed it, I've got burnt buying a few of these guns years ago when I didn't know any better.

I have owned (don't laugh!) a Jennings 9mm.

It sometimes made it through a whole magazine without a stoppage, although never with JHP's. I wouldn't trust my life to one, that's for sure.

Try a Kel-Tek P-11..
It is reasonable in price and is a good value.. Probbly cost a bit more than a Mak. but you get 10 rounds of 9mm in a compact
piece of hardware.. One of the best deals going unless you can find a CZ75b mil... The CZ will be bigger but it just might come with a 15rd mag..
I have both and think they are both great..The Kel=Tec carries
like it isn't even there and the CZ is probbly the best shooting
9mm to be had today..

I agree with Will Beararms. A Bulgarian Makarov is an excellent choice for the inexpensive shooter/backup. It stands up with the most expensive pistols for its dependability. Mine has gone through about 500 rounds and never jammed.

I'm embarrassed to say I owned ONE Jennings in my life. J-22, what a piece of crap. Couldn't empty the entire mag without 2 or 3 jams. Sent if back to the factory, they "claimed" to repair it and sent it back with two new mags.
Still jammed, and I've tried no less than 4 or 5 different types of ammo. All recommended by Jennings and Jennings owners.
Long story short, sold it won't ever own another. Pure scrap!
There is NO substitution for Quality! Buy Quality guns, they hold their value and do what they are intended to do....FIRE!

I have to admit that I own one of Jennings fine weapons (Bryco Jenninings). It has beeen said that every tool has it's purpose and my Jennings is no exception. I use it to hold my important papers down on the desk when I have the window open. It is without a doubt the sorriest, no good, most worthless , most useless piece of scrapiron that was ever sold on the modern retail market. And that may be giving it way too much credit. The only reason I still have it is because I wouldn't put it off on someone I despise much less someone who doesn't know better and might think of using it for self protection.
Buy yourself a Mak, a Kel Tec, a Cz, hell buy yourself a ball bat. But don't buy a Jennings and trust your life to it.
And That folks Is my 0.02

Suggested retail for the Jennings nine is $145. With a bit of searchin you can find a mechanically and functionaly excellent police turn in revolver with a lot of holster wear.....for bout the same money.

Pretty cost money. functional but ugly is inexpensive.

Harsh language would be more deadly than any Jennings. Don't even think about buying one. Really. Years ago I had a j-22. after a month of, surprisingly, reliable service, I pulled the trigger, gun went bang, and the whole slide assembly flew off the front of the gun. I smashed the frame and left it in the woods. Go with a Mak, you'll be MUCH better protected.

Tamara, I can't believe you ever actually owned a jennings. It seems you are human after all.:D ;)
