Jefferson County, Colorado, Requires Home Searches

Here in Michigan the assessors don't DEMAND entrance, as such; If they want into your home, they just assume you've got a jaccuzi in every room, and assess you accordingly... Then you have to let them in to correct it!

Phil,
I just saw that episode of "The Real McCoys" Grandpa and Pepe moved the "good furniture" into the barn. But while in NJ the assessors came around and did the same thing. But if they were denied access, they just assumed that you had marbel bathrooms, walnut ceilings and walls, and they could really hit hard.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't the purpose of building permits, and hiring contractors the point of gaining knowledge of net worth of said properties? If I were to erect a building on my property, according to the laws, I have to first check zoning, then obtain an exception, if necessary. Then, I have to obtain an estimate from a contractor to apply for the permit.
All of this is to enhance the abilitites of the assessor. Not to make the property more valuable. if that were the case, property values wouldn't be like a roller coaster.

Another questions here is that if I were to goto a local furniture store, and buy a living room set, complete with tables, lamps, etc. Who's damn business is that? When I made the purchase, I had to pay a sales tax in order to complete the sale. Now they say I have to be taxed again, for NOT making a yearly trip to the furniture store?
Sounds like BS to me.

I wonder how many assessor goto the lawmakers homes, or should I say their mailboxes?

It's getting close to feeding time for the hogs.

Best Regards,
Don

The most foolish mistake we could make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms;
History shows that all conquerers who have allowed their subjected people to carry arms have prepared their own fall.

Get control of all means of publicity, and thereby get the peoples' mind off their government by focusing their attention on athletics, sexy books and plays, and other trivialities.
Divide the people into hostile groups by constantly harping on controversial matters of no importance."

I don't know if I've ever seen the "Real McCoys", but I spoke with my mom today and she confirmed that in the late 50's or early '60's Indiana did tax furniture, dogs and who knows what else. Her brothers lived there at the time. She said that they probably never moved furniture because they didn't have anything real nice anyway, but that my uncle used to hide his dogs once a year.

50 - 60 years ago, the cynical joke about taxation was:

"Next they'll be taxing AIR!" (har, har, har)

When you drop money into the "air machine" to fill your tires, that is taxable revenue.

Voila! They found a way to tax air!

Let's make no more jokes - the taxation leaches are too proficient at morphing the ridiculous into "the law of the land".

I live in Jefferson County, have for many years, neither I nor any of my neighbors have received or heard of this letter/notice. I think the 4th Amendment covers it pretty well, though, if you've got a warrant you can come in. If you don't, you can't. Pretty basic.
Oatka, regarding Jeffco being anti-gun, you're misinformed. Jeffco is an open carry county, although cities like Lakewood can and do restrict it. CCWs are routinely issued to the goodguys.
I just ran this by my wife, who is a realtor up here in the mountains, she's never heard of this, either.
As far as "identifying the gun owners" in our part of Jeffco, it's easy- just look for the Colorado license plates.
