KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man spit tobacco juice into the face of Jane Fonda after waiting in line to have her sign her new memoir. Capt. Rich Lockhart of the Kansas City Police Department said Michael A. Smith, 54, was arrested Tuesday night on a municipal charge of disorderly conduct.

He was released on bond and is due to appear in court on May 27.

Fonda covers a wide range of topics in "My Life So Far," including her 1972 visit to Hanoi to protest the Vietnam War, during which she was photographed on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun.

Smith, a Vietnam veteran, told The Kansas City Star Wednesday that Fonda was a "traitor" and that her protests against the Vietnam War were unforgivable. He said he doesn't chew tobacco but did so Tuesday solely to spit juice on the actress.

"I consider it a debt of honor," he told The Star for a story on its Web site. "She spit in our faces for 37 years. It was absolutely worth it. There are a lot of veterans who would love to do what I did."

He has my vote for "MAN OF THE YEAR" :D
 
while i personally would never spit in another human beings face, i sure hope theres video of that! if anyone would deserve it, it would be her.
 
So this is how some American veterans want to be known? "The Copenhagen Avenger" I despise of her just as much as the next guy, but doing something like that, just gave that b*tch the chance to prove that she is better than the redneck that spit in her face, and than ran away like a coward. The best way to get her back is to make her irrelevant and ignore her.
 
I think Hanoi Jane is now pretty irrelevant- she is now just another old movie star whose looks have faded and who is seeking to pump the last bit of juice out of a waning career. Kind of pathetic really. Why give her publicity?
 
What I think is that the guy wasn't doing it for publicity. And when he said that other veterans would have loved to do the same, I think he was talking out his a$$ and not really saying that he was doing it as a protest for the vets. I think that the guy really waited 30 some years to actually do this. He did it for himself and his own satisfaction IMHO. I like this guy even if he did something I wouldn't do.............Or would I?
 
Apparently, his convictions weren't strong enough to stick around and face the music.

I don't have a high opinion of Jane Fonda, but that was a low-class, white trash act.
 
I wouldn't have run away myself. It may be a white trash act but it expresses the feelings a lot of us have for her even though we would not stoop to Fonda's level to do so.

(I just don't like her. I did like her movie "Klute" though.)

If she didn't keep apologizing for the sole purpose of capitalizing off this issue, I could understand your anger. But she apologized again several weeks ago to help promote her new book. Before that, the apology was to quell protests during the shooting of one of her BS movies. Her first apology came 16 years after the incident to promote her exercise videos,I believe. And now, some tobacco juice was spit in her face. It's wiped off in a few seconds. Some guy was arrested and tomorrow Jane will be doing a few interviews on TV talk shows. Jane gets a million dollars worth of free publicity,some guy goes to jail for an hour, and her book sales continue to increase daily. And the really sad part about this is. The very reason she went to N.Vietnam in the first place in 1972 was to draw attention to herself and her floundering career. And here it is 33 years later and conseratives are still giving her what the media whore craves the most,attention.

Thanks Freddie. Now my biggest fear is Paris Hilton will be going to Iraq in the next week or two because she says has the hot's for Saddam... ;)
 
Perhaps some good can come of that 70-101. If the CIA would tell Paris that Osama has a really big turban (of course as dumb as she is she'll think they mean something else!) and then they can follow her. Dumb blondes and dumb luck go together! :D
 
White Trash...no, the people who were getting books signed by Fonda are the white trash.

The man had his reasons, something most of you will never understand. He wore a uniform when it was not popular, he earned the right to do what he did.

Klute was an appropriate role foe Fonda.
 
paris hilton, i wish that skank would go to iraq and NEVER come back. has anyone so irrelevant ever gotten so much attention before?? if her last name wasnt hilton, she would be hard pressed to hold down a job at mcdonalds.

and as far as jane fonda, i only regret that the television cameras had already left when he spit his terbacky in her face.

She would just have to do what she's been doing all along to the moron actors she been sleeping,,, I mean dating.

i have a question. why is it that if you refer to an illegal alien as a "wetback" on the TFL you get a lecture, yet one can call a caucasion "white trash" and that seems to be ok. whats the difference?? actually "white trash" is more offensive as its racially motivated, "wetback" is mearly a word meat to describe an ILLEGAL alien. can both offend? yes. but we cant have one be ok and the other not.

perhaps it would have been better and more accurate to say it was a disgusting no class thing to do,which it was. i bet however that alot of vets got some small measure of satisfaction from it,no matter how disgusting it was.
