You hit the nail on the head. I've encountered those kind before both in person and on bench rest forums. some believe they definitely know more than anyone else and shame on you for talking about a lowly 270 or .222 on an accuracy forum. That happened to me.

I don't think I've ever seen this many childish posts on a thread. The two satisfied guys are going to gang up on the unsatisfied one, really?

NavyChief,

First, thank you for your service.

I find it appalling that any rifle in the shape you describe could ever come out of a "custom" shop. Winchester owes you more than just that rifle in the condition it should have been to start with. Maybe they could start with an apology.

That is one good looking scope and I'll bet it cost a mint. It seems I looked at one of those early on before I got the rifle and determined it was a mite too steep at the time.

Allen-He never posted any pictures to show what he was talking about. I find it difficult to believe, personally, Winchester would let a rifle get out that came from their custom shop as he described. That's not to say it's impossible but, I'd like to see what the complaint looks like.

I should not have posted what I did, it is not my place and the forum has moderators for that. I posted what I did because this forum is far above any others I've ever seen in being helpful instead of spiteful. I've learned some very good things on it and hope to continue learning. I think the only thing that NavyChief learned here is that this forum allows that kind of behavior.

You need to lighten up and enjoy life and smile a little more. I have enough seriousness and physical problems at 68 in my life that when I see the opportunity to kid and laugh a little I'm going to go for it. Mystro and me were just kidding around. Had he photographed his problem and given something to go on he may have gotten different answers. Haven't you seen on some forums where someone described something and someone came back with a rebuttal of, "Pics or it didn't happen". Would you take that seriously as well? I would have loved to see what was wrong with the rifle myself.

As for service, I was in Uncle Sam's Army during the Vietnam Era in 1966 and take a back seat to no one.

Pretty agresive for a new forum member on his first thread.

Its a gun forum to educate and to have fun. We have achieved this.

What difference does it make if it's his first thread or 500th thread? The man expressed his disappointment with the workmanship of a rifle that, if true, he has every reason to be unhappy with. No need to play "tag team" and pile heaps of scorn on him for daring to express a viewpoint that runs counter to a product that apparently some are enamored with and are overly invested in.

You've had your "fun" and have given him plenty of "education". Why don't you just let it be? Or maybe you're just having too much fun with the "educating"...

Well, Mystro, your continued diatribes only serve to make the point that large numbers of threads and posts are no guarantee that motives are always well-intended nor that credibility can necessarily be assumed. I like to give any newcomer the benefit of the doubt as to his intentions and to extend a sincere welcome to him to the forum before accusing him of lying or labeling him a troll, no matter how much I might be in disagreement with the content of his thread.

NavyChief submitted a thread to complain about a pricey rifle that he thought lacked a lot in the way of workmanship and described what he considered to be flaws (and, if he is to be believed, the defects are indeed appalling). So he didn't provide a picture of the rifle. Big deal. I've participated in this forum for close to ten years and I've never posted a photo. Does that in any way impugn my character or make my posts any less legitimate?

If NavyChief is nothing more than a "troll" and his purpose for joining the forum was soley to "get a rise" from fellow members, his motives will become clear soon enough. Until then, I will reiterate my heartfelt welcome to the new member and hope that his initial negative experience with The Firing Line will not deter him from contributing useful and educative inputs in the future. Welcome aboard NavyChief!

dgludwig, where were guys like you and Allen when I was being made fun of and drug through the dirt on the CastBoolits forum for complaining about the recoil of a Shiloh Sharps 45-90? They chewed me up and spit me out calling me everything but a wimp for being bruised over a caliber that some claimed they shot all day. I posted a picture of what the rifle did to me and was told I was hunched over the rifle like a monkey and that's why I got bruised. I looked like I had been hit with a truck. Where were you then to take up for me like this guy? Not one soul took to my defense, not one.

I didn't grab my hat and head for the door. I shrugged it off and continued listening to maybe why it happened. I knew why it happened. Number one, I'm one three blood thinners. It's not my choice but if I intend on keeping my leg and foot I have to take them. Plavix and Warfarin make you bleed very easily and profusely as well as causing bruises. Moreover, that skinny, crescent, steel butt plate didn't help. I didn't write Shiloh and tell them the problem and that they should have put a wider, softer butt plate on it for guys like me. It was my fault for buying it knowing it had a skinny, steel butt plate.

If the Navy Chief would have only posted photos of what he was discontent with, I can assure you neither myself nor Mystro would have responded as we did. This is the Internet. You never know people's intentions when they start a thread. If his were good, and I'm not doubting it wasn't, he should have given evidence of what he was talking about. I'm over this.

I never had anything happen like that in the nine years I've been on those things. If I had my way, and I don't, I'd throw them in the toilet. I get bruises on my hands and arms and don't even know where I got them or how. They just show up.

Very possible...I can't remember. That's been a while back and I can't remember last week most of the time. I got shed of that rifle, sold it to an unsuspecting forum member. I'll keep my Browning BPCR 45-70. No more bruisers.

Our stocks are so similar I can hardly tell them apart

"Other than the butt plate difference, no one could tell them apart. Even the grade of wood was very subjective if there was any difference. There is no more time, Fitment, or effort put into either gun"

That was your quote and here is a picture of my stock and my jeweled bolt and extractor, lapped lugs, and action. How can you not tell the difference between the two?

I still don't understand why Mr. Mystro has a problem with me voicing (or typing) my displeasure, with MY gun. I'll guarantee you that Jack O'Connor never kept his mouth closed, or his typewriter silent, when he was displeased with anything, especially guns. If Mr. Biesen would have handed Mr. O'Connor the gun that I received, he would have raised 9 kinds of hell and then put it in ink.
