Hi guys, was just sitting here wondering, has there ever been a handgun make/model that you've only heard GOOD things about? It seems even the best guns of past and present have at least that one lone voice out there trying to trash it. The one style of gun to receive the least amount of trashing in my experience (through much reading) is the ".357 medium-frame revolver". While their aren't many people out there championing it like they do Glocks and 1911's, if you asked them, most shooters would agree without discussion that it's a "good gun". So, what's your choice for a "good handgun", one you'd recommend to anybody?

Ruger SP-101. Great gun, never heard a bad comment. Doesn't get the press like Glocks, 1911's, etc. because it's not "cool" or "in" (i.e.- people in movies and SWAT/Spec Ops don't use them).

Sorry, prof, I'll give you the bad comment... The stock grips STINK! :)

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

No such thing as the "best". If there was such an animal all the others would pack up and call it quits ;)
As for you .357, many folks can't shoot a revolver at all and would bitch about it too.

I would recommend a .22 Ruger MKII Government target mdl to anyone, for the $ Even though people will bitch about putting it back together after field stripping it ;)
Personally, I shoot a S&W Mod 41 for a rimfire, but it costs twice as much as the MKII.

K frame S&W is probably going to get the least bad press.Pre agreement of course.

Well, Beemerb beat me to it, but I'd also say a K-frame. Oh, and possibly a Makarov as far as autos go.

The K frame .357s were beat up pretty good ing the 70s, and early 80s, with reagrd to durability with extensive use of .357 ammo, hence the L frame.

I'm with johnwill, I've never heard anything bad about the 9mm Glocks. lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala :D

I dont think there is any gun that I have heard nothing bad said about. But there are quiet a few that I havent even heard anything about :) Guns that I have heard good things about, but not bad: Browning Buckmark, I have had experience with it, its damn good, as good, possibly even better then a MkII. Theres my good thing to say about it :)

The Sig 228 ... except that the slide is folded instead of milled. I never hear of bad reviews about the HK-P7s either though, except that they cost too much for what you get IMO.

The Sig 229 is still my fav.

You LIE, John Will! :)

In our CIS Firearms Forum days you heard me moan about the new Glock grip configuration ALL THE TIME!

A Daisy Red Ryder. Ok, ok, that's not a handgun. Got to agree with sks, I've heard the least number complaints about a GP-100. Those saying they don't like revolvers in general don't count.

Since we have this internet thingy, you can gather a LOT of opinions in short order.

That being the case, someone out there has something bad to say about any gun. And, the more popular a gun is, the more likely that there are going to be a few lemons and a few dissatisfied customers.

The only guns I can think of that have few bad comments are the guns that no one uses. For instance, large revolvers are definitly OUT right now because people want concealble, higher capacity guns. So, there are not many people out there using them, and therefore not very many people to complain about them.
Glocks, for instance, are the other case. They are very widely used; most stores say that they sell more Glocks than ALL other guns combined! There are a heck of a lot of them out there. Someone out there is definitly going to have bad things to say about a gun that is so popular.

Don't think I've ever heard anything bad about a Colt Python. Kel-tec P-32 comes to mind as well.

I've never heard anything bad about Lorcins.

"Get yourself a Lorcin and lose that nickel plated sissy pistol." ;)

So many pistols, so little money.

Only one I can think of is the Hi-Power. Seems pretty near everybody loves it.
While I've never heard anything bad about function or performance of the GP-100, many have commented that its bulky, ugly and handles like a brick. Personally, I liked the Security Six much better.
