Try harder!

IIRC, a US Marshal managed to shoot himself in the thigh with his Glock while holstering, and a DEA agent shot himself in the butt when he shoved his in his belt while handcuffing...

A soldier (go Army!) visiting Vandenberg Air Force base had an AD/ND w his M203 40mm grenade launcher while in a van parked in our armory parking lot. Round went through the roof and landed on top of the armory. EOD had to go up there and take care of it.

To be fair, know of a USAF cop who fired a 3 round burst from his M16A2 into the wing of the fully loaded tanker aircraft he was guarding.

Some idiots cannot be proofed! :D

In Glock Armorer's school I was told that the safety on the trigger is an "inertial" safety. It is intended to prevent the gun going off if it were slammed down on a hard surface (like landing on the back of the slide) so inertia drove the trigger to the rear.
The two internal safeties (firing pin and drop safeties) are much more important to preventing accidents. A Glock simply will not fire unless the trigger is pulled all the way to the rear. Kind of an operator alignment problem.

Thanks, Dave. That's exactly the kind of explanation I was looking for. I appreciate it. Makes more sense now.

Is this testing for AD (accidental discharge) as in dropped gun or an ND (negligent discharge) as in finger on trigger when it shouldn't be there? That's the distinction as I recall. Do I have those reversed or is there a difference?

Sorry, I was kind of rushed in my last comment. If you follow the basic safety rules about when tohave your finger on ther trigger and where to point your gun, you will have no trouble with any good quality gun, Glocks included. I prefer the 1911, because it has a real manual safety and a good trigger.

ADs in the military

To expand on BrokenArrow's comments. When I was station at Minot AFB, N.D. I was told that the SPs on the flight line weren't allowed ammo. In the dead of N.D. "brisk" winters more SPs chose the brig over flight line detail. But maybe in has warmed up there since 1970 with "Global Warming" and such:D
