iterate your .22 handguns

My22s-1.jpg

I used to keep a few 22’s around. One was a semiautomatic the rest are revolvers. Unfortunately they were lost at sea, during the collision with an ice berg.

A Ruger New Single Six, with 2 cylinders (22LR & Magnum). Satin Stainless and a beauty.

A Ruger 22/45 MK III, 22LR. It had a Bushnell TR-25 Ultra-Compact Red Dot on the top rail. On the bottom rail was a Sig Sauer CPL-RWR-R Compact Pistol Laser Rail. A neat little red laser sight. A real pain to disassembly but a great shooter.

Displayed with the Mark III is a Sig Sauer Mosquito. She usually gets a range trip about once a week. After getting over her preference for CCI Mini Mags she’ll shoot practically anything now. I put the Sig Sauer CPL-RWR-R Compact Pistol Laser Rail on her for a couple of range trips and she turned into a tack driver.

A High Standard, Double Nine, Model W-104. This one was made in 1962. I acquired her from a friend who got her in 1970. I traded him a NAA Black Widow for it. A Classic but not a great shooter like the Ruger Single Six. She’s in great shape for her age.

Last is a Smith & Wesson 1, 2nd Issue, made in 1865. No range trips for this Old Gal. At 147 Years of Age she needs a break. Polished her up lightly with some Renaissance Wax and she’s a Safe Queen.

Only 3 for now.

Beretta 21A, fun little piece. After a fluff & buff is reliable and shoots cheap ammo

My favorite to shoot M-63

Beretta M-76, in case I really want to hit something. :D

Anyone can own a supressor that can own a gun. Just pay a $200 ridicilous fed tax, buy the can...wait 8 months to 10 for the approval. And thar you have it. It's hefty cost....but its extremely fun to fire and the neighbors think I'm shooting a pellet pistol.

Love the .22's

Smith & Wesson 22A . . . . my workhorse with many thousands of rounds through it.
Beretta NEOS INOX with 4.5" barrel . . . . my favorite and my league gun
Beretta NEOS black with 6 barrel . . . . . bought for leagues but just didn't like it as well as the 4.5" INOX
Buckmark Camper with SS 6" barrel . . . . my sons league gun
Ruger Mark III 22/45 . . . . because you have to have a Mark II or III
Walther P22 . . . . just because it's cool (albeit finicky, I may get a Mosquito some day too  )

A better question to me is what 22 handguns do you actually shoot?
All of them, but the 22A, the 4.5" NEOS, and the Buckmark get the most range time.

Well now I have to update my previous post! :)

Just picked up a High Standard Sentinel R-100 yesterday from my favorite LGS. Near as I can tell, it was made in 1955 or so. Has a 4" barrel and chambers 9 rounds of rompin stompin 22s! Finish is a little rough but the bore is bright and it locks up tight.

I got this as a fun plinker to go with my Ruger Mark III 22/45. Put in several spent casings and it showed a good strike and a fairly smooth DA pull.

Can't wait to hit the range for some 22 madness!

That's a nice revolver.

It reminds me of the day when they sold guns via the old Sears and Roebuck Catalog (this was one of them). Not complaining as we have tons of places to purchase our guns today, but it's more the general principle and fact that the Second Amendment was once 'Politically-Correct' in our society and generally accepted as a God-given right which allowed one to buy their .22lr etc. via general-merchandise stores. That's what I miss and see as indicative of how the times have changed.

A Ruger MkIII!!

And a... on no, wait... that just is the shopping list.

Just the MkIII:(

Must say, it is my most unreliable gun (in relative terms) as it suffers from FTEs quite regularly, but there is something about it, because, when I open up my safe, that is the one I reach to fondle and the one I shoot most!! (mostly)

I like!!:)

It seems I'm falling way behind here. All I have is an old Ruger Standard, and a S&W 617 10-shoooter. I have more rimfire rifles than handguns. Guess I had better get busy. ;)

1. Ruger 45/22 Mark III
2. S&W m41
3. Colt Frontier Scout (k-series)
4. Colt Frontier Scout (j-series?)
5. Browning Buckmark
6. Browning Medalist
7. Beretta m71
8. Bernelli 35e(?)
9. S&W Model 17-5 6"
10. S&W Model 17-2 8"
11. S&W Model 18-2
12. Sig Trailside
13. CZ kadet (on P-01 frame)
14. S&W Model 63
15. High Standard Victor
16. S&W Model 617

I've sold 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 15 and 12. Of the ones I sold, I regret selling the Sig, the model 17 8", and the Buckmark the most. However, the buckmark and the m17 went to friends that are taking good care of them. I should have kept the sig and would have except for the cost of magazines.

I have no regrets about the Ruger, my first hand gun and one of a list of rugers I have disliked over the years.

I'm currently looking for a S&W model 35 and a S&W model 34.

OK -- Here comes the list . . .

1) High Standard "Plinker"

OK -- That was the list! That's the only .22 pistol I have.

I love that gun! Got it for Christmas when I was bout 13 or so. In fact, my dad got the very same model that same Christmas from my mom! (long, fun story)

I've put hundreds (probably thousands) of rounds through that gun and it's still a treat to shoot. I put 100 or so rounds through it this past weekend.

I don't have many handguns. For .22LR I have a Volquartsenized Ruger Mark I Target dating from my university days. More recently I acquired a S&W Model 41 with long and regular barrels.

Full-Size .22lr Guns

I'm curious for those that have any of the newer full-size .22lr models that have hit the market of late (SIG/GSG 1911, Ruger SR22, S&W M&P 22 etc.) how they have performed? Also, there seems to be a lot of concern as to their respective long-term durability as to, say, your traditional .22lr pistols/revolvers. Has anyone run into any breakages of any sort etc.?

-Cheers
