Ok after a long drawn out process of research and hundreds (not kidding, don't judge me) of dollars on gun rentals I've made my final decision and purchase. I feel really good about it. Yesterday my son and I went to the shooting range to rent guns. I rented several 9mm's including the Shield and one I didn't think I was even interested in owning. I decided to give the Sig Sauer P938 a try thinking well I've rented every other 9mm they have here so why not. I was a stout gun but extremely accurate. The recoil seemed to absorb different than any of the other guns I rented. Making the recoil seem not so recoily (yes I know it's not a word). I shot an extremely tight group with it so I thought ok let me go back and get the Shield. I shot it and thought eh maybe the recoil on this gun is slightly lighter so maybe I'll get the Shield after all. I rented the P938 again, once again with little aim a really tight grouping. It just fits and somehow I can hold it still even with the crispy trigger. I can't explain it. So I went back and rented a Glock because the guy behind the counter who was probably sick of looking at me suggested it. I didn't care for it so much. I thought one more time lets shoot that P938. I shot it again perfect tight group once again. Easy to hold and shoot. I thought that's it I'm done here. I walked in the store to purchase some ammo. And there it sat my gun the Sig Sauer P938 BRG. The rest is history. I'm very excited about it.
 
You went through a careful and thoughtful selection process that left you certain of your decision. Anyone who criticizes that is messing with you.

We have his and hers Sig P238s (the .380 little sister to your pistol) at our house. My wife and I both like them a lot, and I feel sure you will continue to enjoy your 938. When a gun feels right for you, you know it, and you have plenty of experience on which to base your decision.

Good luck with your Sig P938. The wife and I have the P238's and I also have the Sig P938 SAS. The wife has two P238's a black one with a laser and Hogue rubber grips for the range and a rainbow to carry. A very accurate gun. Watch out when you clean the gun and put it back together read the instructions. Some people don't read how and end up sending the gun in for repair.
 
I think the Sig is a great little pistol. I occasionally carry a less expensive 380. I would carry the Sig instead if I money wasn't tight. You did well in your selection process and choice.
 
Excellent choice! You definitely did your homework and chose wisely what best suited you.
I was in my LGS yesterday picking up a couple of new ones I had ordered and this guy came in to buy his wife a gun. :eek: It took all I could do, after hearing him talk for a bit, to keep my trap shut. The store owner kept looking at me and grinning like he was waiting but I just shook my head and felt sorry for the woman. It was obvious there was zero discussion between the two over what gun she would like.
 
I'm pretty excited about it. I can't wait to shoot it The kids both have basketball today so I can't shoot today but Wednesday it's on. My son even offered me a box of his 9mm ammo which I thought was generous since ammo is like crack to him.

Redhologram I did tell my loving husband that I didn't want him to buy me a gun or tell me what I should buy. I'm new to guns and I needed a gun that felt safe to me and one that I felt I could shoot well. That doesn't mean I didn't welcome some input ect. It's not that I didn't appreciate the thought as I love gifts. But I wanted the gun that I wanted. Now my husband did purchase me a Ruger 22/45 to practice and play with for my birthday. That was completely different. I'm very excited about it and thrill that he bought it for me. To me that purchase is night and day. A conceal carry gun is very very personal.

I did something similar when I was looking for a .45 acp pistol. I probably spent $100 in gun rentals and ammo. But it was fun and it still beat buying the "wrong" gun.

I've wondered why I'm not hearing more about the 938. All the talk seems to be over the 238.
 
I don't know. Less recoil with the .380's maybe? I didn't shoot the P238 because I already have the Ruger LCP custom. I didn't want another .380
 
Congratulations. Good choice. The P938 is much nicer gun than the Shield, as I'm sure you found out by the price differential.

How do you plan to carry it?
 
What he is getting at Scatcatt. There are different conditions in carrying single action semi autos like yours and 1911's. Ranging from no magazine in the gun, condition 4, to round in chamber, hammer back and safety off, condition 0. Condition 1 is the same as 0 with the addition of the thumb safety being engaged, condition 2 is a round in chamber with the hammer down, and condition 3 is hammer down and no round in chamber.

Spending a couple hundred on rentals versus a couple hundred on buying a second gun "just to try it" makes a bunch of cents to me.
 
Ah how to carry. I'm unsure yet. I want to experiment and what suits me but I am wide open to suggestions on what has worked for other people. I've been thinking about it a lot. I'm thinking chambered hammer down safety on. But again I'd love to hear what works best for other people and why.
