Issue with New Ruger SR1911

Call Ruger. I bet they will rectify it. Most likely they would replace it with a new slide.
If you look at the pictures, you will see the problem is not the slide, but the receiver...which would have a different serial number, resulting in additional considerations if/when replacing it.

I truly do feel your pain.
I purchased a used like new in the box Colt Gold cup back in the early 80’s. After 30 years and shooting multiple thousands of rounds it still looks new, expect for the idiots mark.
Whoever had it before I did put the same scratch on it.
Shoot the sucker and be happy, its a Ruger.

I don't see anything that would warrant taking the pistol back. That's a working gun, if you want one to sit under glass, spend more money and don't handle it.

I know it hurts a little to know its there, but its the wrong gun to be that anal about. Not trying to downplay your concern or offend you but while it is a nice gun and new, it's not that nice of a gun to worry about minor dings.

Now if my new Les Baer came with it, I'd hand it back.

My little 1911 in 22LR has a idiot mark from the factory. It is completely hidden by the lever. It bugged me for the first few days but then I really let it go. UNTIL NOW! Just kidding.

Rule:
When buying a 1911 or Browning Hi-Power inspect thoroughly before accepting. (I know there are many other guns that take down the same way but those two models are usually the "prettier" ones.)

My first pistol, a S&W 659, has an idiot mark on it. I wonder who done that?

Not sure if its been said or not, but are you sure that wasn't done by your LGS. It wouldn't be the first time. Most can bead blast there in the store.
Its very hard these days to get a NIB that hasn't been opened. We are constantly telling people to break it down before they buy.
Ruger is one of the better QC co's out there.
in fact look at the post just before mine
Just a thought.

Idiot mark...

I'd like to own some type of 1911 in the future.

That being said, as anal retentive as I can be, that is one subtle mark!

In reality, does it in any way impair functionality?

Absolutely not. It really is only going to bug the owner, most other people won't even notice it unless they know to look for it.

Stu

Honestly, that wouldn't bug me at all. All my guns have scrapes and dings because they all get played with or carried a lot. I respect that it bothers you though.

I made a idiot mark on my j frame, I used a brass brush to remove some burnt powered, which I thought it was. It was some but I did it to long and hard and make some nicks on a brand new gun. It's okay though, I don't look at bottom of it. Guns will wear with time, I can't fret over little things.

I be more worry about some ding/nick a idiot made when holding it at the shop or factory made by mistake(which I have seen new guns with nicks on them)

Blemishes like this on a handgun don't bother me, but I certainly don't fault anyone for being upset by something like this. You have the digital pictures to send to Ruger. Send them an email with attachments, and see what they say.

If they won't help you out, I'm sure there are some here that might be interested in taking it off your hands.

I wouldn't want that idiot scratch on my brand new pistol. If you know what you're doing with a 1911 there's no excuse for an idiot scratch IMHO.

Update this thread and let us know what Ruger tells you as soon as you can OP.

Good luck. :)

I also don't see anything worth sending a gun back for. Especially when you consider that the mark is likely visible ONLY when the slide is locked open.

If we were discussing an unsightly scratch on a flat of the slide, I might feel differently, but not for something that isn't even visible most of the time.

Bead blasting isn't likely to remove a serial number, and even if it did, they could refresh it.

I totally agree with you Coltman77.
The big thing is that an idiot scratch is only there because some idiot put the gun together.
This is my Gold cup and its over 30 years old and there are no other scratches with over 5000 rounds and never dropped once.;)

I must agree with EDWARD. If you're gonna use the pistol ya gotta expect a few scratches. The first one is always the hardest to take but I would not get all out of shape over it. If it bothers you that much I'll take it off your hands. Those things are very rare around here.
