Is Your Primary Carry Gun a Revolver or Auto Pistol?

Both,..Woods, is a Total Titanium 357Tracker..Street, is a HK USP Compact 45.

I always have my mini Noth American Arms 5-shot 22LR. I have put down more road-hit deer with that 22 than any other firearm.

"CC"?, for years was a Colt 2" DS. But 6 months ago I came across a M-13, 3" from the PC center (K frame, bobbed hammer, ported, 6 shot 357 mag, great DAO trigger) and now I would carry nothing else.

Revolver here. Taurus 605 in .357 in fact. Had a Ruger SP 101 at one time - wish I still did, but like the Taurus grips better. Both utterly relieable, wonderful little snubbies and accuarate enough I don't consider making the switch back... How come you are?

I don't consider making the switch back... How come you are?

I assume you mean making the switch from revolver to semi-auto.

I haven't decided. I certainly want to move to something larger than a J frame. If I got a revolver it would be either a K frame S&W snubby (Model 66 most likely) or a Ruger Gp100 3" fixed sights. I would also consider the SP101 b/c it comes in a 3" model. I want the extra shot in the cylinder and as I get comfortable carrying concealed, I'm finding that don't need to go as small as the J frame to conceal. I never shoot my current carry piece (Taurus M85 Ultralite) because it's just a little "pocket gun." All I do is practice evey once in awhile to make sure I can hit centermass in a jiffy at 10 feet or so. My goal is to make my carry gun big enough and accurate enough so that I can shoot it as well as my other guns, but small enough to conceal.

Anyway, to make a long story longer, it seems there are more offerings in semiauto. Plus, because of their design, they are shorter an slimmer. This means that I can get up to a 4" barrel in a concealable package. The most I'll get in a wheelgun is 3".

I haven't decided yet. I have a certain fondness for revolvers. I can't think of a compact semi-auto that feels as good, looks as good, or points as good as a medium-frame revolver. But there are some very practical advantages to compact semi-auto.

In my "younger" days, a .32 with the clip in it sufficed for my CCW needs. I also carried a Colt Det Spec .38 a time or two.

Since I got to where I really can't do too much scuffling with the BG's, I have moved up to a Springfield .45ACP, full size and two extra clips.

Yeah, . . . sometimes it gets a bit heavy to carry, . . . but it's kind like water: heavy to carry, but indespensible when you need it.

May God bless,
Dwight

My EDC is a J-frame S&W.Some occaisions require deeper cover then I carry a Seecamp .32 acp or a Beretta 950BS .25acp.Then in winter I sometimes carry a 1911 in .45acp.tom.

Oh - I see, vitesse9 - I when you said Taurus snubbie, I automatically assumed the same Taurus snubbie I own. Now I understand fully - I'd switch from the model 85 too. (Not that its a bad gun or anything, but there are much better to be had and .38 is a minimal round IMHO.)

So check into a Taurus 605 if you have the opportunity - I think you'll be pleastantly surprised at how well it measures up to a Ruger SP 101.

Model 66 snub with the hammer bobbed and the rest of the gun dehorned including the rear sight blade...in a Bianchi IWB...125 Cor Bons

Almost all of the time I carry some type of 1911, usually a five inch barrel High Standard G Man. sometimes I carry a Colt commander in .38 Super because it is way cool. Really, its a great gun but the colt and the Super are really cool. sometimes If I am really lazy I carry the neat little Kel Tec 9mm. but there is a Taurus .38 for runs to the stop and rob at night.

But I have a Bisley .45 colt I like to carry during deer season. You never know and it will sure do the business if I need it to. Coming home from concrete and steel I drive though choice terrtory.

One of each.

Different guns for different situations/conditions. Generally a Charter Arms Undercover 2" bbl. five-shot with a Federal 158 gr. FMJ. Overpenetration is a problem in the apartment I am currently in, hence the load. Just enough to stop a BG, not enough to penetrate a concrete floor. Also it is a very comfortable combo for me to shoot accurately.

Depends on situation. Sometimes a CZ p-01 IWB. Almost always a S&W 042 right front pocket.

FWIW, it's been my experience that, except for pocket guns, barrel length has little to do with ability to CC. Thickness is the big deal. You know, brick versus pencil.

One thing I really like about pocket carry is the ability it affords to clandestinely keep my hand on the gun or even partially draw it w/o brandishing or assuming an awkward pose. I consider this an important, though seldom mentioned, advantage of pocket guns, revolver or pistol. When I see a suspicious character approaching or I'm in a parking garage, etc., the 042 is in my hand, and no one else knows it.

Also the .38 sp. is not as anemic as it once was thanks to two new rounds: Speer's 135 gr GDHP and Corbon's 110 DPX. Each fired by a snubby gives adequate penetration and 1.5 X expansion under FBI testing protocols. The Speer was developed at the request of NYPD seeking an adequate round for BUGs.

Para Ord LDA 3.5" Model in a Galco Concealable holster with Galco belt. Used to be a Colt Officers LW but the series 80 system bit the dust. The Galco makes it very comfortable. I am approx 180lb, 5'7". I usually wear a light vest over it while at work. (I own a gun shop). Back up is a S&W 642 on a Galco ankle rig. Both have laser grips and I shoot Gold Dot ammo. Bohe VERY reliable, bothe VERY comfortable. Just my .02.
My best advice - Bianchi's Law: "One gun, one method of carry".

I carry both.
My "always" gun is my 2 1/4" SP-101 in .357.
The primary is either a 4" 629 or a Sig 220. Depends more on my mood than anything else, I can conceal both full-sized guns equally well.

Although I have been looking at the little Kahr K-9s.

Autoloaders, purely for firepower.
Glock 22 and 27 on duty.
Glock 29 and Colt Pony Pocketlite off duty.

I love revolvers, but I find 5-7 shots before needing to reload to be rather limiting.
