Is there a decently priced quality revolver?

You can find plenty of pretty good S&W shooters with finish issues for under $400 on gunbroker. Many of these are low round count guns.

Actually, for $350 you should be able to find a very nice model 10 38 special. Decent 357's seem to go for $400ish.

The Ruger's should be cheaper, but are not, when I checked. That may vary by the week.

I picked up a new Ruger LCR 357 for under 400, to carry while hiking on the trail. Can handle shot loads for snakes, up to 357's for bad guys/critters.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm still really hesitant to buy anything used after my last experience with purchasing used but I will look into some of the recommendations that have been given. Knowing the pricing of most of my local gunshops I doubt I'll find anything reasonable though. Their prices before tax are usually at least $50 more than I can buy online for.

Several online sellers offer discounts from time to time, I.e S&W j frames and some offerings from the Ruger line-up. I've never done business with Bud's but I've always heard nice things about them.

Just do some research and you should be able to find something that meets your needs in your price range.

best of luck.

A new Ruger Blackhawk will run you just a bit over $400 if you look around, and you can get them in some rather potent calibers.

What are you planning to use it for? If you're looking for something for hunting and are set on buying new, I'd go for a GP100 or Blackhawk with a 6" barrel to take full advantage of the 357 cartridge. You can find the GP100 for just a little over $500, the Blackhawk for around $400. If you're looking for something to carry, I'd go with the SP101.

If I were just plinking at the range, I'd consider going with a 22 or a 38 for a good first revolver.

I agree with other posters. I have a GP100 and highly recommend it and a nod goes to the SP101 as well. They are inexpensive and extremely well made/durable. I would stay in the .357 range because history has proven it to be an effective threat stopper. I bought a cheap-o $85 West German .38 from the 70s, which I've since gifted to my younger brother, but it works and I spent practically nothing on it. Buying used, I think, is the way to go.

I recently purchased a solid Colt Official Police .38 for $370 out the door at a gunshow.

You can get a lot of revolver for not a lot of money if you take your time to look and buy used.

I bought a used polished SP101 for 350. I carry it in a pocket often. These puppies are so over engineered you can buy them used without fear. Ditto for other Ruger DAs (or SAs for that matter).
