Is there a cure for this disease?

This is the first time I've heard it described as a "crush" and I think that word describes it very well. My wife, however, calls it an "obsession." Pretty close.

I've had some close calls with this obsession, too.

One thing you must try to avoid is buying the same gun twice. I mean the exact same gun, not just a second one. It would be like getting married to the same woman a second time, which a few people have done. But I suppose it would be a cure for seller's remorse.

The other thing that, in theory (because life is short), should be avoided, is to buy a second one of something you already have, but I understand that is done, too. I've only done that once when I somehow would up with two five-inch barrelled M&P revolvers. The second one was in better shape than the first one and, anyway, something like that is good for practicing two gun shooting.

I just can't imagine anyone ever owning two identical automatics--but I came that close to getting a second Walther P-99.

I would never buy from Gander Mt. They're prices are ridiculous. I buy from Buds or from CTR Guns.

As for buying identical...with so many choices out there its hard to buy the same thing twice. If I won the lottery right now..I wouldnt buy 4 of the same sports car. I'd buy different models from different companies.. I feel the same towards guns. Variety is my thing...

Sometimes a person can overdose and really freak out , if the circumstances happen to be "Just Right" !!
1. Gun Auction, with prices staying fairly low.
2. New credit Card with zero % interest for a year.
3. Wife decides to stay home that day instead of going with me.

Get the picture???

Results - 15 (Fifteen) guns purchased for a total of $3100.00

On the good side, 7 firearms sold since with gross sales of $1900, so she sees how I am covering the bill. I will probably keep 5 or so of the total outlay, and my net cost will be zero. BUT the fun of the buy and sell is part of the illness !:D

Apom, at one time I thought it was a problem or sickness, as my Psychiatrist told me “You should give up all your guns and plant flowers, drink tea and enjoy the cosmos and become one with the universe and listen to new age music. Give up these objects of destruction.” :)
I tried I really tried, then went out and bought another AR.
Really Apom, you don’t really have a problem. A problem would be if you belong to a gun forum and have posts numbering greater than 3000. Then you over the head crazzzzy and there is NO help for your sickness.

Yes, it is a disease formally noted as PAD (Pistol Acquisition Disease). Its symptoms are evident in every post above, especially those where it is obvious that the poster is in denial about the nature of the affliction. It is a troublesome strain of the parent virus known as FAD (Firearms Aquisition Disease). Other forms of the infection are RAD (Rifles) and the particularly virulent SAD (Shotguns).
There is no known cure.
Alas.
Pete

I have the PAD as well and also have the BAD (bullet acquisition disease) since I started reloading :)

Who ever dies with the most toys , wins! Its not a sickness but a calling! My friends all know where they will come when the zombies attack. Ive spent 70% of my disposable income on liquor , lewd women and firearms, the other 30% I totally wasted. Give peace a chance, I will keep you covered. Just enjoy.

Re-Sale is the Key and what Differentiates Guns

I too have been 'infected' and it seems to have only stabilized at best. The one thing that's great about collecting guns (what's not ;)) is that unlike some products people spend comparable amounts of money on (phones, tablets, tech in general that they may not even need in terms of so many different devices), we can get a very substantial return back on our investment if necessary. For me that variable assuages most of my concerns regarding my 'addiction.' YMMV.
