Is there a 17cal. Rimfire tack driver?

Well, look, you can only do so much with a rimfire at distance in the wind - of course the best bet would be the new .17 WSM if you had to try to stretch a rimfire beyond its natural limitations - anything less than that is not gonna buck the wind like the other centerfire chamberings you're used to, and even then, still not as well.

However, the .17 WSM makes no sense to me - it's 2.5 times the price of .17 hummer, and you cannot reload it. It's almost as expensive at .223 rem or .17 hornady hornet - perhaps even MORE expensive than .17 hornet.

One of my hunting buddies has a Stainless 17hmr Marlin. We were shooting crows and shooting the tops off of 20 oz soda bottles at 100 yds last summer. We didn't shoot any tacks, but crows and bottle tops didn't stand a chance.

Very nice, Savage. Only time I see crows under 100 yards is with a LOT of limbs between me and them - and then only fleeting. Only time I see them with clear line of sight is 350+ yards, and still fleeting - smart as the dickens, they are.

We have a unique situation in that spot we were hunting. We were in a field that horseshoes around a good sized wooded area. From the wood's edge to the outside of the horseshoe is roughly 175 yard. We could walk the field's inner edge and shoot out, then continue around to the next corner and shoot some more. By the time we got back to the beginning that had settled down again in the field. They got wise on out 3rd loop around. I think we shot 9 or 10 crows. I thought that was pretty good. I had brought a 22 mag that day. No competition, the .17 was definitely the winner.

We wanted to go back this year after corn was planted,.. but we forgot. LOL
