Is the Ruger LCP a ..25 acp "killer"?

I own more .25's than I should. It's an anemic little round.

I just picked up a brand new Seecamp .25 (they reintroduced it)

It's a blast. Doesn't care what kind of crappy ammo you run in it. It just works. One more round than the .32 (that I also own).
I can shoot that little .25 like a sewing machine.

It's much more reliable than any mouse gun .22. ( I've tried many).

Nothing is smaller that a Seecamp or Browning (Bauer) .25. It's the ultimate deep cover concealed gun.

First choice for a gunfight? Not hardly. A sight better than begging for mercy? Quite.

The Beretta 21A in .22 LR is known to be unreliable.
While the 21 in .25 may be more reliable, the 21 platform is much larger than is necessary for the .25 cartridge.
The old 950 model was a great little .25-as was the Browning and the Bernardelli.

The P3AT is not a .32.
Correct...I don't know wehre I got the idea it was a .32 acp.
Anyhow - it's still a KelTec.
Nothing against it for that - - other than - - t's not the same as a Ruger in my book.

I can't recall the model number of mine, but I believe it's a 950 EL.
It's the one with the gold trigger and hammer and the deep , deep, deep blue finish.
Pretty little gun Way too pretty to carry or fire.
I got it from my wife as a birthday present back in 1987 & haven't had the heart to shoot it all these years.

It's the gun I had in mind, that and the Raven .25 acp, when I started this thread.

Deaf,
Maybe so, but,,,,it's a Ruger, made by Ruger as in "I trust the Ruger Brand Name" - made by Ruger w/a long positive history.

KelTec maybe a great name - - someday.

More reliable than a Beretta 21A?

I've never owned a reliable .22 mouse gun. And, I've tried to find one. Iver Johnson TP22. Beretta 21A. Walther TPH are a few I've owned that I remember off the top of my head.

The Beretta in .25 and the Walther TPH in .25 are very good though.

Hal, is this a new LCP? Have you fired it?

I ask because I haven't seen any mention of the break-in period.

Mine was very character building for the first 100+ rounds. Not much fun at all. Mine is the second version of the first style; better trigger and bigger sights, no dash (-) in the serial number.

Hal, the Ruger LCP is a RIPOFF of the Kel-Tec design. Some improvements made but it's a ripoff.
There was a big thread about this a while ago and I'm still waiting for an answer.

What exactly about the kel tec design did Ruger rip off that wasn't already available in other designs.

I think what Ruger copied was more the concept. The mechanical design is pretty commonplace in a lot of guns. Kel-Tec just minimised, or should I say Mickeymised it into the modern "mouse gun".
Where Seacamp introduced the tiny 380 pistol about four years before the P3AT, Kel-Tec made the concept much lighter in both weight, and price.

Compare the designs.

I have to say that the 25 acp is still alive and kicking. After thirty years in the LE world I can tell you the 25 will go through a human skull. I handled many a case where the 25 did it's job well. I had one where the suicide victim shot himself in the head just above his right temple and the bullet exited the other side, went through his ball cap and continued on. Rest assured the 25 will penetrate a human skull and kill you. The 22lr caliber will also penetrate a skull, very evident on another case I handled. As for the 25, I work with three court officers who carry a 25 on a regular basis and another looking to buy one but they are scarce. I just bought a Beretta 21A in 22lr, which shoots flawlessly. I do prefer the 25 acp center fire over the 22LR. The 25 penetrates better and is a jacketed center fire cartridge. I did not purchase the Beretta pistol in 22lr for carry but wouldn't hesitate if I wanted to. I collect small Beretta pistols and did not have one in that caliber. I prefer the 32 Tomcat with ball ammo over the 25 and 22 lr. What is killing the smaller calibers is the 380 small sized guns. Size wise just slightly bigger than the 25 or 22. Don't doubt for a minute that the 25 or 22 won't get the job done if placed properly. They are fun to shoot but the 25 is expensive at about $22.00 dollars a box at Bass Pro and the 32 acp was $27.00. I did buy a box of each of the Remington UMC for my guns. By the way Ruger did copy the Kel Tec design and so did SCCY pistols. I love the PF9 designed guns LC9 and the CPX-2 SCCY all in 9mm.

I have no problems carrying my Beretta model 20 with 9 rounds of 25acp on tap, makes a perfect gun to walk the dog with in the morning.

The examples I tried were horrid & the example I bought is - great!

This isn't the first time and no doubt will it be the last time that individual examples of something will differ this much.

This is from post #30.

This is a great point that we should pay more attention to!!!

Way too often we make sweeping generalizations based on a single experience.

The reality is buying almost anything is a crap shoot and you should never assume it isn't.

You stack the odds in your favor by doing a little research but there's always the possibility that from a company that has a 90% acceptable product rate you'll get one of the 10% lemons. Likewise a company that produces 90% lemons you might get one of the really nice models. If you're smart you also check out a company's track record of dealing with their lemons.

It's life---there's risk.
