Is the 45 Colt revolver the most versatile factory loaded handgun ?

Well, if you've read all the posts, Ed, you'd understand that there are some folks who apparently believe that there are some (Smith&Wesson?) .44 Magnum revolvers out there that are like many .45 Colt revolvers in that they are not safe to shoot all factory loaded rounds. I'd like to know which ones they are. Whether you do or not is your business. Whether I do or not is my business.

I have Dan Wesson revolvers chambered in both 44 mag (model 44) and 45 Colt (model 745). I just seem to have more fun shooting the 45 Colt; produces a bigger smile :D

dgludwig- none of my reloading manuals say which factory loads are suitable, so if you mean which ammo company says that -Garrett cartridges. They have two loads clearly marked and intended for S&W's and the likeand one that specifically states "not to be used in S&W revolvers". Garrett cart. are considered factory ammo by the ATF. They clearly state that the ammo is loaded to pressures that aren't safe in the Smith.
The question was originally, What is the most versatile factory loaded handgun round? As far as being versatile goes it would have to be the .45, cause it can go from mild to even more wild than the .44.
Hope that helps
