Is something wrong with me?

I got my new and first 1911 two weeks ago and this is my second gun. My first one being Bersa 380. I never reacted to my bersa this way.

Before I hit the deck I have to open my vault and touch... I mean caress my new toy. In the morning before doing anything I have to ... i mean have the urge to open that d*mn vault again and I must touch... I mean caress this new toy. Is this feeling temporary ?

It's not even a month and I know that I must have that commander size 1911. When will this stop? When I bought my Bersa I said that this is purely for home defense and this is it. Now I got the bug.

I DO HOPE THIS IS NOT TEMPORARY!

Heh, heh. No it's probably not temporary. It'll get down to once a day. Maybe. Yep, you got it bad.

I started with a full sized Springfield Gov't Model. Now I also have a Colt 1991 Cmdr. The Bersa Series 95 stays over the microwave for kitchen entry emergencies. I visit it once a week.

vega,

Yes, there's something terribly wrong.
Here's hoping you never get well...

In all seriousness, vega has pointed out something that guess we have all felt. I can say that I've felt "excited" about other
"things" that I've purchased but with pistols or rifles, it was much more intense and long lasting. I, too, liked to "see" my p13-45 before hitting the sack, as well as my other toys. For the first month, I did this every day. Now, however, I can usually go two or even three days. I can't explain it very well. It is just a feeling of satisfaction and anticipation. And, I must say, that this feeling doesn't extend to other guns I don't own. I can acutally go into a gun shop, handle a dozen pistols and not buy something. When I find something I think I like, however, it goes beyond just wanting another piece. There seems to be some attraction to the way it's built, or the finish, or the history, or maybe even a combination of everything. All I know is that very few, particular guns make me feel this way. I'm feeling this way about an M1 Garand right now. I've got the CMP paperwork on my desk and will send my application in next week. I own one other rifle: and SKS which I love. I've handled hundreds of others but only the M1 Garand "does it" for me. So, I'll buy one, hold it, and look at it everyday for a while.

I'm just smitten with the what these little, complicated, machines are capable of doing and enjoy the responcibility of maintaining and controling them.

It's 0740, family is still in bed, faithful dog at my feet in the office, my second cup of coffee with a great cigar at my side, and in the open case to my immediate left is my empty para, fresh from its last cleaning, waiting to be dry fired a few times. All the while reading through the latest TFL posts. Does it get any better than this?

rome, i think i am going to cry. look see the tears. life' great joys include a good woman, faithful dog, loving family, smooth wiskey and a fine weapon to caress. not always in that order.

I believe that every one of us is fond of gun and sometimes we think we are obsessed to it.

I myself, everyday, I caress my M1991 A1. I have 4 holsters of it to interchange the whole day even I am inside my yard. I feel great and secured while it is tucked on my waist. I may be called crazy but I feel that way. I keep oiling it even a drop if the cold steel is on my hands. I had a habit now that I am putting my 1991 A1 under my pillow. But what I can say, my pistols are second to God to depend on my protection.

Vega there is nothing wrong on what you feel on your pistol. That is normal for a true man advocating proguns.

Thanks

vega - Don't worry, it's normal. The feeling will go away in about ..... well, I'm not sure actually.

However, bad_dad, I'm a little worried about you. I guess anything is ok in the privacy of your own home. Just be sure to check that the 19 is unloaded each time!!!

I have the same thing happen to me. I have had my 1911 for over a year, and I just have to handle it sometimes, it's just so... I dunno...
I really understand about buying them too. I have just a couple of guns that I'd like to add the collection, but sometimes I'll go out and see one, and it's just SO wonderful.. like love at first sight, only longer lasting

I guess we are just crazy gun totin' fools, huh?

Yea you need help, the only remedy is this, run to the nearest gun store and buy 2 more to calm down. Then follow with close to 1 a month as you can get. This is a temporary fix at best.
I started out on the 1911 craze and after 8 of them im still not over them yet.
I have found a recent craving for the big bore single action revolvers in 45 colt and 44 mag here lately though. In fact the only gun i got that is not a single action is a lonely glock

Seriously i do consider the 1911 the best auto ever built with the glock a close second!

There is nothing else out there that has the feeling of the 1911 ,it just captures the heart and mind, darn i better shut up I got to go caress my guns know !

I start to hyperventilate whenever I head to the store to get new toy. my heart is starting to beat a little faster just thinking about my new glock 32. I got a ccw not for defense but to have a toy close by. please help me!!!!

fun isn't it! now all you have to do is start reloading and you will never be able to make enough money to keep up with your habits. heck its bad enough buying the dang things but then you have to feed them.

welcome to the ranks. I think TFL is a self help group for HGA (handgunners annonomus)

Buy a couple. That way you won't wear out the one you got fondling it. Now trick it up all pretty with new grips, magwell, etc. That is half the fun. Try lots of different rounds through it. Try some +p's. Go crazy. Have fun. Spend lots of money. Then when you got it just so, get another and start over. the fun never ends.

I think you are ok - even if you were to talk to your gun - the important thing is that it doesnt speak back to you

shad_lad_brad - have you tried that copper based lubricant Glock puts on the frame rails - Felpro CP3 - it's pretty messy but it really does prevent galling..... you should try it

Yes, you are very ill

The only way to stop this is to send me your 1911 right now. Don't wait, it may be to late.

It's not a problem until you start taking it to work with you and dry firing it periodically at your co-workers...
Before you get to that point, e-mail me and I will come and take it off of your hands for you.
