Is S&W finished?

My personal opinion is that SW revolvers are probably the best in the world. I was thinking of buying one of their Mountain Guns so I dont have to go unprotected while hiking. Then they signed that stupid agreement. If I can find a used one I will still buy it, but not a new one. I hope they go bankrupt and their leadership floats back across the big pond like the pond scum they are. Sad for the employees, but an example must be set. Hopefully who ever buys the name and equipment does not buy the agreement and we can go back to enjoying a qualty new revolver. Till then they and their English masters can rot in hell.

Not to make this a flame war, but anybody who cannot overcome the trigger on a Ruger GP-100, or SP-101 is a lousy shooter. If we are so dependant on silky triggers, where is our talent and skill to overcome and get reasonablly good with any firearm.

I proudly own a GP-100 and find the trigger no hinderence at all. I am even willing to say that those who complain about the triggers probably have never fired a Ruger anyway. They are just vomiting what they have read in the gun rags. Ten thousand times my A**!!!

S&W will go down, of that there is no question, so be it.

I like Ruger revolvers, especially after a good action job. (The same is true about S&W BTW.) But Ruger doesn't have the variety. Not even close. I carry a titanium J frame in .32 H&R magnum and love it. There's a huge difference toting around a SP 101 all day.

Has anyone actually been to a gun store that's complying with the agreement? Every store I go to still has S&Ws, and they still sell hicaps and assault rifles. They aren't complying with any of the other terms either.

The time of reckoning for the S&W agreement is at the end of the year/start of next when they resupply the distributors.

Battler.

Never had a trigger job done with any of my Rugers. No matter what the pull on any of my guns are I just deal with it. I still get good accuracy!

With Colts and S&W's I do fairly well with the stock trigger. I haven't shot many Rugers but my recollection is that their triggers are heavy. Is that incorrect? Anyway, all factory revolvers can use a little TLC from a good smith.

In answer to CraigZ, the gunshop where I have bought all my S&W's has officially given up its stocking dealer status. Bought a P32 from them the other day and all they had left was a Smith 380. They refuse to carry them again (might change if current ownership gives up the ghost). Apparently, enough of us threatened to boycott them completely. Then they saw the light! From the looks of the showcase, they've replaced the Smiths with all kinds of Taurus revolvers. I think most of their customers share the same sentiments that we share at TFL. Does anyone else know if your favorite gunshop has gotten rid of Smiths too?

Well, I certainly don't condone what Smith and Wesson has done to the law abiding citizens of the USA, but one fact still remains: if all of us boycott them out of buisiness then Clinton and his fellow facists have won. Instead of sueing them out of buisiness they are going to sit back and laugh as YOU AND I do it for them. To them, the end result is the same I guess is what I am saying.

I guess we are kind of f**##$ either way  Something to think about.....

Justin,

The price of freedom is high. Yes, a gunmaker will have fallen, but in any war, Traitors, when caught, MUST be executed.

PeterGunn,

All my wheels are Rugers; two 4" ss GP100's, 5.5" ss Redhawks in 41, 44, and 45, and a 7.5" ss Redhawk in .357 (or why I own no rifles).

And you might consider trying my '10,000-pulls' trick; a sweet smooth pull will result.

My wifes' S&W M38 has a trigger like a glass rod.......

Not to start a flame war, but I prefer to take the "long view" of the S&W situation. Without question, they make exceptionally fine revolvers (OBTW, I am VERY happy with my two "N" frames -- probably the finest handguns I own including Glocks, Sigs, Colts, Kimbers, Rugers and Smiths). This said, I wouldn't buy a new S&W right now.

However, what is the future of S&W? Will this icon of handgun quality and innovation be forced out of business? I doubt it, because their British owners perceives S&W as one of a non-related group of assets in a classic conglomerate structure. Presuming a buyer can be found -- and that will be difficult given American politics today -- S&W will be sold. This will allow a "rebirth" of Smith under new "non treasonous" management. S&W will retain its traditional quality, craftsmanship, and creativity, but with wholly different political position.

This would be an ideal solution, and I believe it is possible, although not certain.

Does anybody know the latest info on the "health" of Slick & Willy??
I am a believer in the quick death of wounded animals. I want S&W to die a quick, and "hopefully" painless death. There is no pleasure in the death of a once trusted ally, now turned traitor. The fight for freedom will not be without casulties. I am deeply saddened that a once proud bastion of American freedom has turned turncoat, and must now be tried, convicted of treason, and executed for their crime.

Well..........

Unfortunatley S&W is just about the only handgun that can be sold in Massachusetts....

Well there is Walther P99's and some Sig's that are now Mass Compliant.

I've never been a fan of Smith autos but I have to admit, the 945 is one sweet piece...

MA gunshops are doing a pretty good business selling S&W..hell they have to since this is all they can pretty much sell since the A/G turned into Al Haig...

Heck they didn't ask for any of this crap and now they are the ones taking the shaft...without the sales of S&W they'd probably be out of business themselves.

I'm not in any hurry to buy a S&W as I have plenty of Glocks,Rugers, Berettas, etc to keep me happy. However given the state of politics in MA, I could not fault someone for wanting a CCW gun and buying a Smith....

They must be hurting if they are offering a $50. rebate. Not enough there to make me want to buy a new one. My dealer won't stock any and he was a big seller. Starting to push more Taurus. Personally I can't get excited with those. S&W was always my favorite revolver. Rugers are good guns also but I like my Smiths. Maybe if Bush gets elected he'll flush the agreement. And I also believe Thomkins is going to have a hard time unloading them. Who is going to want to buy them with that agreement in place and a ruined public reputation? Anyway I did my civic duty today and bought a LNIB used Chiefs Special .45 Nothing wrong with buying pre-ban used. I'm going to be sorry to see them go but they dug their own grave :(

S&W R.I.P. :(
