Is muzzle flash a good or bad thing in home defense situations?

Dang, almost forgot the most important part.
Using a flash light in a dark house gives away your location to one and all.
Using the house lights doesn't.

standing at the light switch plate and flipping it on, with an armed intruder in the room...is a bad place to be( You should get a clapper lol)

P99guy,
You are assuming the intruder knows where the light switch is and where to look.
But the clapper idea is good.
Clap on, clap off, drive the guy crazy.
Maybe add a recording of a werewolf growling and howling, to go with it.
Just a thought.

Being blinded by the flash isn't something you can concentrate through to keep from being affected. It is a physiological reaction. The reason you probably aren't noticing it is because you are closing your eyes when you shoot. If others are seeing it and you aren't, and they are talking about how it will blind people, then your eyes are closed.

Bull... both eyes are wide open.... but in an SD situation and in training, I"m point shooting and looking at the target ... not looking down the barrel. So, that may be part of the reason. I see flash.... but it is not a BIG THING to me ... and not like they make it out to be. Flash is very short duration event. It's a bit like looking into a light, or past it.... if you look past it, the effect is not the same.

The lights in my house are intentionally set up so .. anyone not in my bedroom area, is back light or will have a low light on them, whereas I will be in the total dark. The advantage is all mine. Second, if I go into other rooms to check them, the 2 dogs go first and are trained to locate them ... so they will have more than me to worrry about.

I have clappers on 2 lites stategically placed and little green nite lites in wall plugs so it isnt completly dark in the house at nite.

The devil dog with red blazing eyes is in there and he sees all and can bite a bull in half :) well bull frog, it sounded good :) or bull snake cause he did do that once.

I find that ported muzzles give off a lot more muzzle flash right into my eyes.
