IS IWB carry possible ...

.... even though I am very large ( read REALLY FAT ) ?
At 300 + pounds I occupy every square inch of my jeans with no room to spare. I want to try to carry IWB but don't know if it's possible or comfortable for me to do so . Are there any other big guys out there who have some experience with this ? What holsters would be best to try ? ( Walther PPX )

I have no answer for you & will be watching this thread.

I do envy you however for being able to fit into jeans. Since I quit smoking last August, I've gone from jeans to bib overalls, to finally sweat pants.

I can't get anything else to fit my huge girth.:(:o

BTW - I'm @ 285 give or take 5 to 10 pounds, depending...

I'm only 225 lbs, but have found the best (only) spot for IWB is at 8:00 o'clock, just behind my left hip. I'm left handed.

For a right hander it would be 4:00 o'clock, just behind your right hip.

Generally speaking, I'm not sure it matters how big you are because you pretty much have to buy at least one size larger pants to carry IWB. Most of us take up every square inch of our jeans, at least the waist, unless we're wearing the wrong size.

I'm 6' 210-220 and IWB@4 O'clock works best for me. I don't get jeans a size too big and works fine with 380's and cco1911's. I wear 36 but maybe I'm actually 35 1/2?
Jeans with the stretch section on waistband may help you?

I myself am large and IWB is great and IMHO the best way for large guys to carry.
OWB means you have to wear even larger shirts to stay concealed.
I have carried many years with many types of firearms and tried all kids of holsters and always come back to IWB styles.
I carry a SR40c IWB and it is very comfortable.
Get a holster with a belt clip and then you can remove the gun when comfort or space is a premium.

I'm 6'. A few years ago I was right at 300# and carried IWB. You get used to it.
I've since dropped to 235, and don't really notice a difference.

Hey Tommy Y, welcolme to the big and tall CC club. I am 6' 2" tall and about 320lbs and I carry a S&W M&P40 compact in a Crossbreed supertuck and it is a lot more comfortable than you would think. I also have a brother that is nearly my size and he also carries a fullsize XD in a supertuck. It is the most comfortable IWB holster I have found, and a lot of other big and talls tell me the same thing. As a big guy, the one thing you have to make sure of is that your shirt or jacket is loose fitting enough so that you don't print. Good Luck.

Hal -
I've been buying Carhartt jeans in 52 waist,31 inseam, style B17 for about 5 years now. Expensive ... yeah, but they are tough and well worth it. I work on commercial restaurant equipment and have to get down on my knees alot and they get plenty filthy too. I wash them with some pretty harsh laundry chemicals to clean them and they hold up really well .

The 4:00 position IWB is looking to be the best way for me. I have a el cheapo neoprene holster with a belt clip that was made for IWB and have used it there a couple of times. But, I took the belt clip off and started using it for a inside pocket holster. It actually works well but as you can imagine it's really not an ideal way to carry. It barely fits and I have to take it out to drive.
Since it's still really cold here in Virginia I can carry OWB and my coat hides it well. I just shift it further around the back so it's less on the side and more in the back. Ok for now but not gonna work in the summer.

I don't know what a Crossbred Supertuck is but I'm gonnna do a websearch on it. There aren't a lot of holster options for the Walther PPX so I can,t be real pickey.
Please keep the suggestions coming . Thanks for the help.

As a fellow guy with Dunlap Syndrome (the belly dun lapped on over the belt), I IWB carry at 3:30-4 with a Supertuck style holster (same kind that can be found here, here, or here, for examples.

Personally, I prefer a holster that keeps my gun at a 15-20 degree forward cant, which makes the gun easier to draw (for me) and has been more concealable in my experimentation.

I'm also a Dunlopper (350+), and I've had good luck with appendix IWB carry for my Charter Arms snub. I'm looking for a larger auto (Shield or CW40/CW45) to try in the same position. Between the pelvic girdle and the overlapping belly, my pistol tends to be well-concealed & secure.

Im 240 lbs left handed and i carry iwb at 8 oclock. It is the most comfortable for me. I carry a xdm 40 3.8, fullsize comfortably. If youre a righty i suggest 4 oclock. Give it a try and good luck.

I'm around the 280 mark on a short frame (read "fat"). IWB works well for me at about the 4:00 position when I don't have to wear a suit (mostly don't have to these days). I usually carry a 1911 IWB which is a thin pistol.

Probably already mentioned. but for me the key was one size larger for my pants a 40 instead of a 38. And a leather holster belt. Which are twice as thick as a "normal" belt. I carry a full size 1911 in a N82 holster all day with no issues.

Cheers
Ron

Looking at the replies left here it has occured to me that real problem is not so much my size but my shape. Rather than being fairly straight up and down like most average sized person I'm more rounded on the sides.
I've been experimenting with IWB placement by just using the gun by itself to see what was comfortable. I then went out on the internet to see what was available. I've decided to order a Split Decision High Ride Tuckable from High Noon Holsters.u

Being in college, I've packed on a few since my high school days (BEEFCAKE!).

I found that IWB 4-5:00 is the most comfortable for me (no "overhang" back there). My gut makes appendix carry impossible.

I carry a K frame, either 2 or 4 inches

Large waist; IWB....

I have a larger waist. I'm not very fond of the IWB style because of the way it presses against my side.
I've used strong side & cross-draw carry mostly. I always avoid & advise others not to carry SOB/MOB(center of the back), since it could cause serious injuries or problems.
If you choose a IWB style, Id buy a high quality holster like a Summer Special or a Kydex/polymer design.
Firms Id check include Blade-tech, Galco, Wright Leather Works, Safariland, Kirkpatrick Leather, HighNoon Holsters, Milt Sparks, Greg Kramer, Don Hume.

For a Walther PPX, Id contact the shop first to see if they can make a holster & how long the delivery will take. Some places are extremely busy due to customer orders.
