Is it legal

Gortex,

You'd have to take your state laws into effect and double check the Fed. side but yes, very short barreled shotguns are possible to own and apparently CCW in some states.

I liked the Ricky Nelson/Dean Martin version better.

"In Michigan, a shotgun less than 30" but at least 26" is a pistol, and I believe that they can be carried with a CPL."

If its considered a pistol then why dont you need a permit to buy,and what about 18 inch with pistol grip.from my understanding a long gun has to have at least an inch barrel.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe (packing.org says) that indiana is a Concealed Handgun Permit state. Thus, no legal concealed shotguns.

Dragonfire,

In Michigan, a shotgun indeed must have at least an 18" barrel unless its an AOW, (Michigan does not allow civilians to have sawed off's:mad: ) and if its at least 26" but not quite 30", legaly it must be registered as a pistol.

Acutally here in MI, technically anything that you have to register  as a handgun, you can CCW as a handgun. This includes shorty shotguns, and some AK variant short bbl stockless critters. Even if there is a bayonet lug.

Difficult and inconvenient, but legal to the letter of the law. LEO would probably be a lil nervous if you got pulled over with one of those in your pants however.

Here in the People's Republic of California, if you have a CCW, you may carry the three handguns listed on your carry permit and/or any long gun loaded, either on your person or in your vehicle. That means that you can have a loaded rifle or shotgun mounted in your vehicle, ready when needed. You may hide it under a trench coat but it would look rather suspicious with our weather and all.

I'll chip in another vote for the Taurus shot-pistol, which takes .410 shotgun shells:

Saw one over at McBride's in Austin, thought to myself "That's incredibly cool, but I have no practical use for it."

Thus I vote you buy one, and let all the rest of us shoot it.
