Is buying online proving a better path than buying locally?

oneounce, No problems as I have most all the guns a guy could ever want in his lifetime.
and the only tax collected is from a dealer in the same state. Still does not provide guns for a person to buy where there is no real gun choice,
So if I had the urge for another Mauser Broomhandle i guess i would still have to buy it off line.

Im sorry but with the ecomony with what it is, the local gun shops have to keep up $75-$100 on items above $600. Maybe in harder times I could times I could understand the LGS keeping prices higher but as Sam Walton said, "The big fish eat the little fish." I went to a gun shop about 2 months ago to look at a used CW9 and they wanted $375 for it, no box, nothing! I can get a new one on buds for that! No taxes, $25 dollar tranfer, lower prices, its just hard to beat. To add insult to injury, the local gun shops here arent the friendliest. If your not a good ol' boy your lucky to get to see or hold a gun. They also only want to push the guns they have in stock because they are the "best."

Not any more, unfortunately. IIRC, WA is one that mandates dealers collect sales tax even on out of state sales./ The tax was always there - it is typically called a "use" tax and is SUPPOSED to be paid voluntarily. Since they can't enforce it, and no one seems to do it, they are finding ways to make it happen in these cash-strapped times. That means the guns from places like Bud's may or may not continue to be a good deal.

My local guy can beat Bud's every time - I give him what I am wanting he gets me a price. By using a different distributor, he gets a lower price and makes a profit - win-win

Looking at new guns, there just isn't much I like. I prefer all steel handguns, not polymer. I like wood on my rifles, not plastic. My local shops have limited supply of guns, ammo, etc. And it's not just recently. They charge $40 to complete a transfer from an online seller. I just found a local guy who might be at $25, so that will help.

Keep in mind, if a private seller is shipping it, you could end up paying overnight shipping, as high as $70. It's a drag...

For me buying online has been cheaper, more availability, and no taxes! So I love if! My local shop is filled to the gills with dickheads! I have tried to buy quite a few pieces and seem to run into..."We dont have it right now but keep checking back" to the ones they have in the display case is beat up from handling and they refuse to discount a scratched up gun! Their lose in my opinion!
