Is buying cheap pistols an addiction?

Just wanted to add one more thing... "Inexpensive/cheap" is relative. To me a CZ82 might be an inexpensive plinker. Another person may have it as their HD gun or CCW.

I've only bought one gun over $300 in my life. That was a Savage package deal 8 or 10 years ago. But my gun cabinet only has centerfire Rugers, rimfire Rugers, Winchesters, Savages, Marlins, Remingtons and 1 H&R. None of them are cheap but by "some" definitions they have been inexpensive.

Anyone who thinks you need to spend $500 to get quality and reliability is wrong.

Are they addictive? Betting they are. I'm even thinkin about starting a "inexpensive" derriger/mouse gun collection just for the heck of it. Note I didn't say cheap. If it ain't finished decent I won't buy it, if it ain't reliable it won't be around long.

If I ever have to use a gun to protect myself, I want it to be reliable and accurate. :Those things don't often come cheap.

Got the CC covered, not really cheap, but really reliable. LCP (for the Sig minded, that is cheap), Springfield XD40 Sub Compact,
Colt 1991A1 Compact W/trigger job, mag well, Wilson Combat trigger & hammer, full length guide rod, Wilson Combat 7Rnd Mag.
Any of those could be on my person at any time. Then there is the CZ82 or E. German Mak that have always function reliably, and accurately. Either of those can be left in the truck, secured as best as possibly, but if they disappear I'm not out that much.

pends on if you ask the guy buyin.... or his wife

Ahh, the advantage of having so many she doesn't even know when a new one shows up!

More like an affliction.

OK, I'm afflicted, now I feel special!:D

The cheaper the better is my montra....

My wife would like it better it I could get the cheap addiction:D

"Hi-Point on the other hand is the only automatic pistol i would not hesitate to play Russian Roulette with. "

i have a hi point and a bullet i can lend you :)
seriously though, my hi point is one gun that has never failed to fire.....ever!
so i hope your kidding cause it would be a big mess and someone might miss you......maybe :)

I'll give you that. She knows I have a "black" gun and a "silver" gun. Little does she know I've got at least half-a-dozen of each. Tee-hee-hee....

Cheap guns, cheap woman, cheap booze, sounds like the makings of a great spaghetti western, whats not to love, except all three can kill you, but then again, one may die with a .:D
I've always felt I'd rather own one real good gun than three cheap ones, but then again the cheap ones can be more interesting, GUNS that is, not woman.;)

There's a place for cheap(er) guns,,,

I have the high quality handguns I want or feel I need,,,
S&W 629, S&W 15, S&W 36, Colt Trooper Mk III, Ruger SP101, and a few other fine (expensive) guns.

I decided I want a 9mm for fun and games at the range,,,
Since I will never carry a semi for protection,,,
Why spend a ton-o-cash on a range toy.

I bought a Hi-Point and it serves that purpose just fine,,,
4 boxes of ammo and not one problem yet,,,
And it cost me $159.00 new.

I have a very nice Colt Frontier Scout for cowboy plinking,,,
I'm considering a Heritage .22 of some kind,,,
So I have one for friends to use.

For your defense gun, or your serious competition gun, buy quality,,,
And that usually translates to a hefty price tag.

Once you have those needs/desires satisfied,,,
There's no reason to not buy a cheapie if you want to.

After all, Guns and their wielders secured the right for you make your own choices.

Ain't it kewl?

You can go right ahead and borrow mine if you want ... but you need to bring a friend, 'cause there's no way I'm going to clean up that mess :D

for me, being a college student, you bet i will use a cheap gun. i seem to have a fetish for kel tec's specifically, but i love em. they always fire, and after break in, i dont usually have any problems with stovepipes. i just bought a new p3at and i smiled when i bought it and smiled when i shot it. its a GREAT carry weapon, even if it is cheap small and ugly. but on the other hand i have a ruger and S&W. but for me to spend that kind of money, not gonna happen too often. i think as long as you trust that weapon, and it will do its intended job, you feel safer, and doesnt make you go without, i say get the cheap ones.

inexpensive handguns

I don't understand this "I'am better than you" attitude people have about everything. We have many choices in this great country but people either want to put people down or tell people what to do. Your team is not as good as mine, your car is not as good as mine, your house is not as good as mine,
your religious beliefs are not as good as mine and so on.
Why do people have to rag on every thing someone else does in life?
I bought a Hi-Point .45 acp a couple of months ago and all I here from is a bunch of people putting it down. Have you ever fired one? or do you believe what people say without any proof. I think John Kennedy was shot by five people am I to believe it just because someone may have said it sometime.
I had to retire last year because I had my second back surgery. A Hi-Point was what I could afford. Does that mean that I will not buy a better gun in the future, no it doesn't. It gets me shooting till I can afford a better gun.
You do not build yourself up by putting others down. You only look like some one who thinks they are better than everyone else.

its one thing if you have 1 $150 gun, and its another thing where you have 10 guns, all of them from $100 to $300, ie, if you saved up your money you could have purchased a $2000-$2500 gun

Well,
When I was single buying expensive pistols was an addiction.
Before I had kids buying expensive pistols was an addiction.
After A wife and 3 kids, now buying cheap pistols is an addiction.

And when you get to my age and retire, the kids are grown and out, BOTH become an addiction!!:D

but finding a good deal, on a good gun that you really want ...is worth the search. In fact sometimes the search is more fun than actually having the new gun ....

A friend of mine bought a used Wilson Combat 1911 last week for $ 1,900. It was in great shape / a very good buy - for a gun new that would be about $ 2,850 the way it was configured. Although I wasn't going to boost it out from under him / if he had passed on it ...I was going to buy it. I was happy for him - he made a great buy ! Cheap - No. Inexpensive - maybe, depends on your perspective ...but he was prepared to spend $ 2,850 for a new one ....so you be the judge. I think its a gun he'll keep for 3 generations / and be proud to own for a very long time...a great find in my opinion.

yeah, a bunch of people in the thread i asked about lever action rifles said, in 20 years from now, you wont remember how much you paid for that particular gun, just how well it performed, if you still have it

I think your friend might be a bit confused...

The "bitterness of poor quality" quote is attributed to Leon Cautillo.

I believe your friend might have been thinking of the Gucci family motto which is, and I quote, "Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten."

:)
