Is anyone making wood panel grips for the Kahr K9?

I just think my Kahr might look better with wood grips. Anyone making any?

No thanks. I don't even like to pay that for a new gun! :)

Thanks for the references, guys.

While Hogue is the producer of the grips Kahr sells at their site, a Hogue rep told me that they will not be marketing any grips until at least next year. As far as I have been able to find out, Kahr is the only current supplier.

I ordered my wood grips from Kahr last Tuesday. They were super as far as customer service went. I'll post a pic when I get the grips. She told me 2-3 weeks. Take care...Opie

I ordered the wood grips for my MK9 from Kahr, and I'm disappointed. First, they sent me the wrong ones (K9, not MK9), so I had to return them (with me paying the return postage).

Second, they sent me the MK9 grips, and when I put them on the gun, the panels on the inside that extend into the grip frame are too thick, making it difficult if not impossible to pull the magazine out. In addition, the points of the grips up at the back of the slide stick out a bit (just like the original plastic grips did), causing wicked bites in the web of my hand. So, I'm going to have to sand down the inside of the grips a bit to make them fit, which I haven't gotten around to doing yet.

Finally, they're rather plain-looking wood, nicely-finished, but a long way from cocobolo.

Ok, so writing that last post led me to find some sandpaper and work on these grips. Not too big a deal, the mag drops free now, the grips don't bite, and I have to say, they look pretty good. The Pearce grip extender kinda clashes though.

man you got some ugly wood on those grips. mine truned out to be Pauo Ferro wood. it has a dark chocolete color with black grainy figure. it's a long way from Coco Bolo. that is what i wanted but i am please with these for now. if Houge will offer the grips in a year or so in Coco Bolo, my old grips for my K40/K9 will be up for sale cheap!

I got the Pau Ferro grips from the factory also. They look good but not as sharp as the cocobolo grips on my 1911s. Tried to get Faux Ivory grips for my K9 Elite from Eaglegrips but the wouldn't do them even as a custom job. :(

Just got my grips from Kahr and am very dissapointed also. The grips I recieved did not fit the frame. I had to trim with a razor blade on the inside of them. My wood is the same color as Craigz, and I dont care for it much.

Thanks for all of the reports and the photo, guys.

I'm MUCH more inclined to either make a set myself, or wait until Hogue comes out with them in the darkwood.

I have never liked lightcolored woods on my handguns.

I wrote the following email to Kahr Arms on 7/30:

quote:
I just wanted to let you guys know that I ordered a set of exotic wood grips for my MK9, and I was decidedly underwhelmed both with your service and with the product. You first sent me grips for the K9, and when I called customer service, I was told that I had to pay the postage to return them to you.

When you finally sent me the right grips, they did not fit the gun properly. I had to sand down the interior surfaces in order to eject the magazine properly, and trim down the tips at the back to prevent them from biting my hand when firing the gun. In addition, the grips are entirely pedestrian in appearance, not at all what I would expect to be described as "exotic wood."

For $48.00, I expect a product that fits, but I had no desire to pay return shipping again in order to exchange them, so I dealt with the problem myself. I like my MK9, but I hope that more accessories become available from third party dealers, so that I don't have to put up with this again. As far as I'm concerned, Kahr Arms owes me $3.20 for the shipping charges I paid to remedy your mistake.
Here's the reply I received today (8/3):

quote:
Sorry to hear all this, I cannot reimburse for your shipping charge but I can
ship you a recoil spring assembly. These should be replaced every 3000 rnds.
Will ship to address you provided.
Not bad. How did you do, Opie?

I bought my K9 just before they started putting two magazines in with the new models.

When I found that out, I called them, asking if I could buy one at a reduced price.

They asked me for my information, credit card, serial number, etc., and a few days later a brand new mag shows up.

Best part about it was that on the invoice someone had scratched through the credit card information and written "NO CHARGE"!

I LIKE Kahr firearms. I've like them from the first day that I handled a K9. I keep hoping that they will come out with a .45 version of the K9. At that point, I become a TRUE believer in the .45!!!

Regarding the poor fit of the MK9 grips... I ran into this problem with my wife's MK9. My MK40 grips fit great, but hers had the biting problem, etc. One of the techs at Kahr told me that the grips were actually fitted for the MK40, which had a little more meat on the backstrap. He fitted a pair of grips to an MK9 there at Kahr, mailed them to me free of charge, and told me just to keep the other grips. Talk about customer service!!! Now if they'd just make those new polymer pistols in .40!!! :D

i am still waiting for Houge to come out with Kahr grips for the public. the last few grips i got from them in Coco Bolo fit the guns perfectly (something i can not say about Eagle grips) and the wood was breath taking. that is what exotic hardwood should be. select; not a piece of straight grained 2X4.

oh yeah don't hold your breath for a .45 Kahr, the factory told me they are concentrating on refitting the Auto Ordinance .45 production line with CNC machines ect. maybe one day Auto Ordinance .45's under the Kahr banner will compete with Kimber.

riddle: If I'm not mistaken, the factory rubber grips of the K series ARE Hogues. They, just put the stylish "K" on the sides instead of their own brand.
