Revolver for 1st gun? Yes!
Howdy,
I agree with Mbartel, Revolvers are probably the IDEAL first gun! They're simpler to use and maintain. They're less expensive (which leaves more room in one's budget for training ammo!)to buy, less in need of upgrades and are just plain FUN to shoot!
A Ruger GP-100 with a 4-inch barrel would be a great choice. I prefer them to the current S&W offerings. Look for a used S&W 586, 686, 66 or my favorite: the old Model 10 chambered strictly for .38 Sp. I can hit my target more consistantly with the unglamorous model 10 than any other gun I own!
I think revolvers are less likely for accidental discharges. It's got an exposed hammer and it's easier to tell if it's loaded. There's something about that sure, steady double-action stroke that allows the shooter to really get the FEEL of controlling his weapon. Try it! Good luck.
