i also shot the rem. 600 series and really liked them because of how handy they are to carry and swing.
do your shoulder a favor and go with the model 7 in .260 rem. its the short action reincarnation of the 6.5x55mm swede. they use it in the artic/nordic regions to hunt everything up to moose
sounds like plenty of power for deer.
i use my m96 swedish mauser mostly for plinking, because its full size, but have 2 friends who swear by them for the lower 48 states. i'm saving up for the .260 rem now.
