Introduction to large caliber handguns

My wife's gun is a Glock 21 & she's 5'2'' small hands she uses a 357,44 at the range & tried my 454 a few times but its a little to much but she had to try to see what the big bores are about now she knows.no harm in the ladies takin a little recoil most LADIES are TOUGHER that you think.;)

Yep.

If she is shooting a snubbie with .38s, shooting the 66 with .38s is a big step down in recoil. Bring the 66 and some .38s, if she is comfortable, let her fire some +Ps and then if she is ok some .357s. Easy progression.

+1.
Perfect.

...and the old Colt, she says, and I quote has too many "negative military associations."
I wonder where she came up with such opinion based commentary?
When she says such things, does it annoy or bother you?

Are heroic old United States Soldiers "negative military associates" that should be avoided also?

It annoys me slightly, but if anything, I'm to blame for that. The lady friend and I have a very give and take relationship, we watch a chick flick one night, the next night we get to watch a movie of my preference, which generally revovles around my collection of John Wayne dvds. Thusly, through that sort of exposure, she sees any sort of Government Model .45 as a military weapon. Which is a problem when our one source of constant discourse is my military career, which she is more or less opposed to.

get my "reload guy" to make up some light .357 loads

I don't know what you and he consider to be a "light .357 load" but I find anything over .38 +P to be unpleasant in a K Smith like that M66.
Save your money until she has worked up from wadcutters to standard .38s.

She may well prefer the .45 anyhow, especially if you get her some light target loads for the big auto.

First off, a .357 isn't a "Big Bore" and unless you're shooting really heavy premium ammo, most factory stuff is barely above a .38+P anymore. If she's already shooting a snubby .38 then a Model 66 should be a welcome relief to her. Have her shoot a cylinder full of her defensive ammo first and then move her up to Winchester white box and let her decide how she wants to proceed.

I met the woman of my dreams this past weekend. Good looking, smart and loves big caliber handguns! Picked up my 4506 and rattled of a nice 5 shot group.

Might as well let her give it a go! You might be surprised!

If she can shoot a Glock 26, a .357 Mag should be well within her capabilities especially in a full size gun. My small sized daughter, a relative novice with handguns, mostly has shot 9mm, but had no real issues with a .357 Mag. She had no trouble shooting a .44 Magnum either but did not like it enough to try too many shots. I expect a 1911 .45 or .40 S&W would also be well within range. My experience is somewhat limited but the only gun I have found painful was a small pocket 9mm.

If you are really worried about her firing the weapon and the dropping it or something, just load one round to start, worst thing that happens is a dented gun.
