Installed "handgun" safe in my truck today. **PICS**

I just walked back in from installing a safe in the cab of my truck to keep my handgun inside of when the truck is unattended.

I found one of those "drawer safes" on sale at GI Joe's and it was a perfect fit for the space.

I installed it right behind the armrest between the seats. With the armrest up it is impossible to see but with the armrest down it is easily accessible from the drivers seat. Even with the armrest down it is very hard to see from outside the truck. It is very securely bolted to the carriage of the truck so it is not going anywhere either.

The added bonus is it keeps my tool bag from sliding around on tight corners. :)

I am going out now to buy some foam to make an insert to hold my XD-45acp securely in place (similar to the one in my nightstand) when driving. I will post some more pics once the insert is completed.

Can it be seen from outside the truck with the doors closed and windows rolled up? I'm thinking that nothing says "I'm worth breaking into" like a truck with a visible safe.

As I mentioned above, no it cannot really be seen. And even if it could a simple towel could solve that problem. A safe can also mean "Don't bother breaking in unless you have a crowbar and several extra minutes."

That looks very nice. Bolted through the floor? How many bolts?
Four bolts...it came pre-drilled for two and I drilled two myself. I bolted it through the floor and then connected the bolts with a bracket that goes over the center frame brace. To remove this thing you would almost have to rip the frame out from under the truck.

Very nice, I HAVE to put one in my van. I never leave a firearm in my van, but had to yesterday.

Had a doctor's appt. at the Veteran's Hospital, metal detectors and no weapons allowed. I was nervous as hell the whole time, even though VA security does patrol the parking lots well, and plenty of security cameras.

Never the less, I need a good safe in the van. I hid it ...well it don't matter where, it can be found by someone looking hard enough.

Thanx for the tip, I'll see if I can find my old frame ripper.;):D

thats gotta be one of the tightest things ive seen in a while....tha only thing that would top that is if someone had one of those hide-away spots in there car...but those cost alot

Very nice, it will be a great place to put mad money plus other small valuable items you need with you but not in your pocket.

This only cost me $39.99 for the safe and about $7.00 for hardware for a total of just under $47.00 for the entire install. :)

One of the best arguments for buying a pickup these days is that there's sufficient spots to properly mount a pistol safe. Not alot of flat spots in the interior of anything else, as far as I can tell.

Very cool. Looks like you did a good job mounting it.

I agree with the sentiment that you'd lock up anything worth stealing, so this truck isn't worth the effort - but unfortunately I guess we can't count on the logic of criminals. Hope it works well for you.
