Please answer these 2 questions in your response:

How many guns and rounds of ammo constitutes a "small arsenal" for one person?

How many would be a "large arsenal"?

Knowing many gun guys in the Houston area, I broke out laughing when I read the story, guessing by the description in the article that most of them have "extremely large arsenals" (way more than 10 guns) :)

"Police believe man found with small arsenal at Hyatt Regency downtown had no intent to use"

And just how big was that arsenal? According to the story: "AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun and lots of ammunition". I can't wait to hear how many rounds of ammo is "lots".

Here's the link:
"Small Arsenal"

What say you?

Small Arsenal: X long guns + Y handguns + over Z rounds of ammo
Large Arsenal: X long guns + Y handguns + over Z rounds of ammo

I know words no longer have much meaning even to supposedly educated reporters, but.......

An Arsenal is a place where arms are manufactured.
An Armory is a place where arms are stored.

This is why you have a National Guard Armory in town and not a National Guard Arsenal.

What constitutes an "arsenal" totally depends on how Lefty the news source is, and how "evil" the guns are.
Any amount of ammo over about a 20 round box is considered to be an arsenal.
You get more arsenal points if there's more then 2 magazines, one magazine that holds more then 10 rounds, and extra points if there's some sort of knife present.
A camo jacket puts it into the "Suspected militia or KKK/Nazi" range.

The term "Arsenal" is media abuse, cut and dried. Ever been to a real arsenal?
Hundreds, if not thousands of mediocre, identical, unloaded, storage maintenanced
firearms, set aside, usually, in the total absence of ammo, to be kept for a long, undetermined period, in the possible event they may be needed, at a later date.
All stored in a large locked chamber, which is supervised regularly, but rarely entered.

"Arsenal" is just a liberal media term to make people think the worst.
How many guns should be in an "arsenal"? At least 2000. All identical
Type: Current or last generation military grade.
Ammo: Might or might not be stored, in an adjoining chamber.

Words to scare the sheeple/people who won't think for themselves anymore. The Chicago Tribune was notorious for counting every single round of .22 ammo found in anyone's home, during any kind of "police intervention", just to make the suspect appear that much more dangerous to society. Glad I left Illinois.

Small = 10 long guns, 5 handguns, >1000 rounds of ammunition

Large = 50 long guns, 50 handguns, >10,000 rounds of ammunition

And, despite the truth of what you wrote, "the oldest name in American firearms" is Springfield Armory (which manufactured firearms for the U.S. Government, established by George Washington), not Springfield Arsenal.

I'll not do numbers, but when you say "Arsenal" that means you'd need trucks (Dozens and Dozens) to move it. The National Guard had "Armories".... that took several trucks ..... the Army had "Arsenals" ......

Sounds like a drunken 3-gun competitor to me.

If my home is ever raided by the police, I'll be sorely disappointed if the term "arsenal" doesn't show up in the newspaper.

I can't pin this down to numbers of guns and rounds, but here's how I see it:
Small Arsenal: You would need one or two friends with pickup trucks to move them to a new house.
Large Arsenal: You would need a semi and special permits to move them to a new house.

Small or large arsenal are generally defined by if the person is pro or anti gun and or what type of headlines it will generate.

Safe to say, most of my gun buddies have an arsenal of weapons. I wouldn't define any of them as small, or large.

Perfect.

I recently moved to a new home, and had to borrow every gun case from several friends to safely transport all of them to the new house, so I agree with Spats...

I have a small arsenal......but am hoping to change that over time.

It's a Collection, Investment and Hobby

My wife collects Willow-Tree Angels ; ........ = Collection
My Son-in-law collects Diamonds, silver and gold; ..... = Investment
I am a leather crafter and have many old leather tools. .............. = Hobby

I have always associated the word; Arsenal with the military and law enforcement and nothing else. .... :)

The 2A foes and liberal media, key in on catch words or phases to support their agenda. One example is reported suicide that a man had committed suicide with a Semi-automatic handgun that held 15-rounds. ...... Really?

You do the math and;
Be Safe !!!

Small aresenal means it hurts a bit to buy gunsocks for each gun. Large aresenal means you have to take out a loan to buy gunsocks for each gun

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding !!!! We have a winner:

Arsenal : An arsenal is a place where arms and ammunition are made, maintained and repaired, stored, or issued, in any combination, whether privately or publicly owned.

Small : 4 long + 4 short + 200 rounds

Large : 20 long + 20 short + 1000rounds

Arsenal is a silly word, unless you're a soccer fan. It has several different usages, and it has been used to describe any amount of weapons owned by an individual as well as massive government depots. So effectively the word is subjective and its appropriate use is determined by the user.
