Inherited some rifles/shotguns

The wooden dowel is probably to reduce the shell capacity to make it legal for hunting. Some states have capacity restrictions for hunting.

Last 720 I saw was at a gunshow years ago, maybe mid 1990s.

Absolutely pristine, complete with box and paperwork. Legitimate claim to having never been fired, I think.

Price then was $2800.

Some states have capacity restrictions for hunting.

They ALL do when it comes to hunting migratory birds like dove, waterfowl, etc. Only issue with wood is that it can attract moisture. Keep the original, but if you are going to hunt and need the mag limiter, a small piece of pvc pipe or a delrin dowel will do the job

I have a soft spot for Stevens Doubles and the Remington 58s. I know they aren't worth much to some people but my Dad taught me to hunt on those. I still have his and hunt them regularly. I even shoot skeet with the Stevens, lots of laughs but I enjoy it. Keep the ones that matter to you and enjoy them. I would probably keep a; of them.
