IMI Timberwolf 357/38

Hope this works for you I'm not good trying to talk on a keyboard. Never typed or even used a computer until about 2001!

I was given (individuals knew I favored the rifle) one of the rifles by friends while in Israel that (may or may not have been military issue) several of the guys kept one in vehicle. The guys ask if was ok to give (an American not in the IDF) me one of the rifles . The weapon was without a doubt one of the best pump actions I had ever shot. In a close quarters environment found it to be viciously effective especially after the trigger disconnect was removed. Back in the states mine was taken by a coward who decided to relieve me of it while I was away. I never really got over the loss of that rifle and started looking again recently for a replacement. This platform holds a place in my heart and it was time to get back in the mix and getting another. Found one on the Armlist for $975.00 bought it Monday and am lucky to have found one at all. Saw one go for $750 recently and they got a bargain. John the seller of mine was new unfired with the factory box/papers & sling. Today being my B-day I feel blessed and thankful I have such a loving wife who allowed me the rifle. Decided to trade some 5.56 for some 38 on the gun trader website. The guy who I wound up trading with was looking at the rifle too I just beat him to it. And talk about a small world we live in John the seller who's location brought up a conversation and old memories resulting in finding out he knew my ex father in law and we hit it off from the start. From getting ripped off to making a new friend seems everything about this rifle and I were bound with something deep anyway the rifle. Only videos I found of the weapon were lacking severely in any real info on the weapons fit feel and overall ease of use. From experience I know 1st hand it to be accurate out to anywhere from 75 to 125 yds with good ammo using the 357 mag. And on the 38 special depending on the round good to about 50 to 75 yds. The rifle loves (WADCUTTERS) and feeds them with no problems and the impact on a hogs skull with a 357 mag was devastating. I was shooting a trunkcated wadcutter 125 gr and shot a bore in the middle of his ear from about 70 to 75 yrds blowing the bottom jaw and most of the upper teeth out on exit. I intend on making a video at our local indoor range as well as an outdoor too. I look forward to posting more on the weapon and it's not only being a super caliber carbine but a blast to shoot. The weapon can be seen on Armslist as sold but there are some nice photos of it. I look forward to publishing my own along with testing it to it's limits and maybe a bit further. If anyone out there has one would love to hear about your experiences to date.

God favors those of us who value our word and are willing to stand up when so many lay like sheep with hands out do nothing.

Welcome to TFL ! . :)

It's world's better than a .30 M1 Carbine, that's for sure.

I'm glad you're having a second coming with one. :p

I was in the IDF, and ran a regional armory for another few years for the Israeli Border Guards. I have grave doubts that an IMI Timberwolf was ever an issue weapon in any IDF unit, or that one was ever carried as a "main weapon" in any IDF unit. I can imagine a few possible uses, for some very specific purposes, but............
Without divulging any personal or secret info, it would be very interesting to hear something about the type of unit or specific mission requirement that the Timberwolf was used for.

I agree with jonnyc. I call B.S. Everything about the OP sounds totally made up.

Petah, why would you think a off brand .357 lever action would be superior to a semiauto M1 carbine with detachable mags?

i read some where years ago that they were trying to sell it to law inforcement, but one the thing that hurt it was that when it was being reloaded it was out of action , the shell in the chamber couldn,t be fired. eastbank.

A .357 has more power/stopping ability - not to mention the much wider availability of premium ammunition for us poor slobs that don't reload.

In my experience, telling shots are usually vastly more effective than spray/pray.

BTW - The Timberwolf the OP's referring to isn't a lever action - it's a slide/pump.

Thanks petah, I was thinking of a different gun, but the point remains and is even more valid when you stack a pistol caliber pump gun against a semiauto high capacity rifle.

The OP discusses using the timberwolf for CQB, where rapid follow up shots are much more important than in just about any other type of engagement.

That also doesn't change the fact that they were never an issued weapon by the IDF and the OP's story doesn't add up.

Is it just me. or does it seem strange someone would register, but wait more than 4 years before making their first post?

Post

:confused:Wow one person said welcome (thank you sir) and thought a pleasant thought on my deciding to try and replace something that was taken by an ethically challenged individual who may have been allergic to employment as so many are. Another so fast to accuse a man of BS over something as trivial as my ignorance to a specific detail on issue or choice. And another being paranoid over my not being so avid on posting an opinion. Did not have anything to say I'm not a big talker fact is to many folks jump at the chance to bash on or be way to opinionated for my taste. As for myself just never developed a need to communicate via a keyboard. I busted my but paid my dues and earned every scar/plate/pin or screw that happens to be part a part of what's left of my body. Amazes me as to how fast that these days people will jump at the chance to show teeth before anything else. Oh and not sure about the placement of the smiley faced thingy's. So figured I would cover my @ss and do both!

Jon
Thanks it was good talking to talking sir.

Constituional rights

Friend of mine a while back was bitching about welfare folks. And by then I had grown a little tired of his 30 minute rant. Good guy but only stops talking long enough to catch his breath. I felt it my patriotic duty to remind him that the right to those opinions and the soapbox he was standing on (he's on it a lot) did not come cheap. I agree with him but since he had no part in the payment of those rights in peacetime or any other time I was just tired of hearing him talk. And although I had part in payment I do not feel the need like (arotc boy) or sniper to be constantly ranting on about them. Like to listen more than I talk and like to read more than I like to waste my time plunking away on an inanimate object such as this keyboard.

Welcome to TFL. I own 69 firearms and my Marlin 357 is my favorite of all I have to choose from. I would like to see some pics of your rifle if you can post them.

I have no idea what the Israelies used for guns and if they ever used a slide action rifle in any roles. I really don't care what they used. I do know they are some fightin' SOBs. I hope that Iran keeps that in mind.

When I heard about these many years ago I tried to find one. I never did. So post some pics please.

Welcome

lkl777: Welcome to TFL. Getting criticized is just one of those things anymore when someone posts. I too would like to see pic of your rifle if and when you can or want to post them.

Pictures and thanks for the welcome

I should have it next week the FFL that was used has some P=Poor shipping policies. But I will get some up.

A mans word as well as his actions are more than his bond or just his deeds
they are a portrait of how he is viewed by the world !
And if my dog dislikes you dude you gotta go!

to me it would be a good hunting or plinking rifle, but by not being able to fire it if the need came up while reloading , takes it out of the self defence role for me as that one shot could be the deciding factor between living or dieing. and i would take a m-1 carbine over it any day. eastbank.

As I was discussing with lkl777, standard IDF armament for the types of units he mentioned would be the Uzi, Glilon (short Galil), or any variant of short M16. I would personally prefer any of them over a Timberwolf, in just about any situation you might name.

Welcome to TFL forum LKL777. The IMI Timberwolf 357/38 pump action rifle looks like a sweet little rifle from what I've been able to google. Snyper you need to chill out.

The Timberwolf 357 has always attracted me...too bad they stopped making them.
I have to say, though, I much prefer the M1 carbine for serious use.

welcome to TFL lkl777, i didn't know that IMI made a pump/slide 357 mag, i always like the concept of a pump/slide 357 or 44 mag rifle, i hope i find a IMI Timberwolf for sale some day.
