Do you know something we don't, or are you just saying that it is always a good idea to check up on any city before you move?
Well, I guess I won't try to sneak my handguns thru in the Uhaul.
I don't look forward to flying up with them either.
I'm mainly a handgun guy, owning only 2 rifles and 1 shotgun.
Now handguns, I'm not gonna get specific, but I can't count 'em on my fingers anymore.
So, the check-in guy at the airport will freak as well.
(In addition to the luggage weighing a ton.)
I would most definitely insure them for the flight, but it's not the money that matters, I would hate to lose my guns.
Many are unavailable anymore (1903 S&W 32-20 for example), and some have alot of sentimental value.
Somebody mentioned a ferry from some lower 48 point to somewhere in AK.
How expensive is it?

I'm up here about 40 minutes from the Canadian border.
Personally, I wouldn't risk taking guns through Canada by car, truck or trailer.
They're already semi-freaked out with smugglers hauling drugs and cigarettes, and Bin Laden types with bomb materials.
It's pretty strange to see the Big Brother gun laws the Canadians have, so close by.
I don't think they'd have a problem searching an entire U-Haul truck, all the way to the front of the box.

I was just at a shoot there a couple weeks back.
An AMAZING range facility!!!
I'm talking acres and acres of land, backstopped by a foothill, literally dozens of firing points, yardages out to 300.
I'd like Missoula, but my wife doesn't want to go there.
She likes AK, and I think I would too, so that's what we're looking at.
