You didn't mean it as a pejorative did you?

Apparently nate, you left out the second definition and the clarification definition that 'good ol' boys club' is pejorative and that only those in the club see themselves as being "good" or use the term in a sarcastic or misleading manner to downplay less than proper acts on their part.

I think you also missed reading the context in which it was used in the OP and the thread's title.

I'm surprised you were ever allowed to use birdshot at an indoor range. Not only can it damage equipment, but light shot has been known to ricochet back at the firing line.

Right. I have been to a couple that do, but they also had lanes dedicated to its used, the backstop being filled with something like shredded tire rubber in front of the canted steel backing. They lanes were used to allow shotgunners to pattern their loads and chokes and no hanging target trolleys were on those lanes. Otherwise, I can't think of any either.

Oh wait, I think there are a couple giant European indoor ranges that allow for indoor sporting clays, but I have never seen such a facility in real life.

Why don't you enlighten me by posting it? Then we can determine how OP knows the older white male is a member.

My kids say I'm old and I'm white, but I kind of know something about asia. I even went so far as living there and speaking/writing/reading Japanese.

Still, what person describes himself as asian? I ask because most people from asia actually are from a country which they identify with. Just like I'm an American, not north american.

Now, on to more important things. I can't imagine shooting a shotgun indoors. Your range must be better than the one's I go to. So, that probably is a safety issue not an asian issue

So, I would get over that. If someone calls you out like that, ask politely to speak to the manager/owner in private. With calm talk and listening, you will either resolve it or understand that you are not going there.

There was a story on realclearscience.com this week about an organization demading "personhood" and the associated legal rights for dolphins and whales. One of their main points is that dolphins and whales are self aware.

I observe that the capacity for self awareness varies widely from person to person. I would not want to have to judge the "personhood" of a person by evaluating them for self awareness. That seems strict.

I have seen video and other documentation on that german range. it is an incredible facility.

They only allow their own specific steel shot; that seems a little more dangerous as far as bounceback than lead would be.

I know that a pile of chunked tires would make an excellent backdrop for rifle or handgun, run a couple yards deep in a pit, but I'm not sure what a loose chunk of tire rubber would do when hit by a piece of #6. I'd be afraid that the things would bounce on occasion. Chunked tires are disposed of in coal generating plants.

Shredded very finely and held in place by some sort of net or barrier, that ought to work.

Has anyone ever fired a field load at a tire, and seen if it penetrates?

I once was visiting my insurance agent, and noticed a bb laying in the parking lot. Over the next 15 minutes, I found several dozen, lined up between a window and a home half a block away. Apparently some kids had spent an afternoon trying to shoot out a window, but every one of them had bounced right back, a few of them left a mark on the brick or shutters.

Out of curiosity I followed the link and right at the bottom of the Rules it clearly states...

"The Firing Lane management reserves the right to refuse service to any person for any reason at any time."

So, unless you appeal to Management or the guys Supervisor, assuming the person in question isn't either of the former, he was within company policy.

Vote with your wallet by all means, but until you talk to Management to see if you can resolve the issue, you are accomplishing very little.

3 sides to every story. The range counter guy was probably bent because you were challenging him on "his" rules. Speak with management or the owner. If you're not happy with the result, then spend your money elsewhere.

You throw in the "old white guy" thing. I'm not saying the guy isn't a racist - got no idea but a-holes come in all colors and ages. This one happen to be white but he could have just been an old crusty F*. Most old guys are grumpy F*'s. I'm getting there myself.

With regard to bird shot at an indoor range... I sure as hell don't want that shot at an indoor range I'm shooting at. Those bb's do ricochet.

However or whatever happened-happened. Their range, their rules. Dont like it you may want to buy a piece of land of your own in the country, use someone elses land or drive a bit further to another. Complaining isnt going to change a thing.

If you came into a place that I worked covered with tattoos, dressed like a punk, wearing anything that looked like gang ID or any other things that made me suspicious, white, black, or green, I'll point you to the door.

How can a guy in the 90+ percentile make such an obtuse statement? As an old white guy you would not give me a second glance. If I saw you point a young tattooed kid towards the door for no other reason than you didn't like his body art, I would take my business elsewhere and make a big deal of it. I understand you may be the smartest guy in the room and frightening to the neighborhood kids, but prejudice is neither smart nor frightening to me.

^^^ same here, we have all walks of life in this world. Some express theirself different than others, some made mistakes in their life but over and done with but still have tats and changed their life. What about alot of these christian singers who are all tattoo'd up but live for the lord now and theres some people you and me cant reach but someone who may look a certain way can reach a certain type of people. Its people with prejudice that keeps predudice alive today.

maybe you guys should look a little deeper into what my meaning was.

If I am given the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the people and property, I am going to look at every person who comes in and wants to handle a loaded gun. The only way I have of deciding who should be allowed to come into the building is their appearance, and NO, I do not have to make excuses for not looking deep into the soul of that person in question.

If the person looks like a dangerous thug, I'm going to refuse you service, and the owner of the company will back me up all the way if I have followed his instructions.

This is one of the reasons i've never even considered working at a sporting goods or firearms retailer.

This gradeschool bs is getting old. If you don't like the things I say, there is an ignore button. Don't follow me through the forums taking cheap shots at me.
