This doesn't fit under semi-auto or revolver so I decided to ask here.

I'm looking at a Ruger GP100 stainless or a CZ75 BD stainless. I can only only afford one atm so I'm not sure which way to jump. Eventually when I have more cash on hand I'll be getting the other one. But whether that's three months from now or next year I don't know.

I have p226 for reference, which makes me lean a bit towards the gp100 for variety. But I really really like the cz75... and the gp100... bah.

I know I'll be annoyed 5 minutes after I buy that I didn't get the other one  My only consolation is it would only be a temporary problem :D

Ruger makes nice revolvers. I hear lots of good things about CZs, and almost nothing negative, but I've never had much contact with CZs.

In that situation, I would also go with the revolver. Variety being the spice of life and all.

Hard to go wrong either way

Both are great guns. I've owned both the CZ75 and the GP100, and would recommend either.

Does ammunition commonality matter to you? 9mm is a bit less pricey than .38 or .357, and costs go down with bulk orders, so in that regard the CZ75B would make sense.

OTOH, if you plan to reload, it's a lot easier to keep the revolver brass, if you shoot at public ranges. (Ejected brass tends to get swept up, or grabbed by other shooters, fairly often.)

Or you might just want to have two different calibers, in case one or the other gets hard to find (in late 2008, .38 and .357 were a pain). I have handguns in most major SD calibers, in large part so I can always find something to shoot.

Do you want to try handgun hunting? In that case, the GP100 makes more sense (but you might have to go with a 6" barrel, as many states require 5" or more for hunting).

Hunting isn't really a something I'd do. I live in NJ, and we have enough problems with handgun laws :p . Heck we have to hunt deer with shotguns in this state.

I'm already feeding my p226 .40 and the price for .38 special is very close. The lower price of 9mm ammo is a very tempting reason to buy the CZ first.

GP-100 all the way. Starting out your collection, you'll appreciate the variety. I bet you'll also find that in single action, it is more accurate than your Sig Sauer.

If it is mostly for range use, get the 6" barrel.

Then, before you buy any more guns, take up handloading. You can get a good start for under $200.

Revolver. The GP is a great gun and this case, it's two guns in one. You can fire either .38s or .357s so you really give yourself a few more options.

I have heard nothing but great reviews of the GP100/SP101...

With the GP 100 you can shoot both 38sp and 357mag.

You already have a quality auto, get the GP-100. You need a revolver in your collection and now is the time. The Ruger is rock solid quality and will last several lifetimes. Since you have a n auto to carry, go with the 6" revolver, you will be amazed at how much more accurate you can shoot it than the auto, at least that's how it is with most people. I know I can shoot tighter groups with my 6" revolvers (S&W 686 & 610) than with my auto pistols (Kimber Gold Match and CZ 97B). This holds true even when shooting pins.

I just noticed you put the CZ75BD...

... as opposed to the CZ75B, so I'm going with the Ruger now.

Since you have a P226, you probably like decockers in general. I prefer cocked and locked, or a shorter action DAO. If I want a long DA pull, I'll go with a revolver.

Revolver for variety.
I would stick with the 4 inch if not hunting. The long sight radius of the 6" can help with groups but can be front heavy. 4" inch has better balance than the 6"

Well guys thanks for all the info, I've made up my mind to get the GP100. I was already leaning towards the gp100 as I grew up learning to shoot with a 22lr revolver and S&W .357 (sorry I was 6-7 years old at the time so don't know the models). Besides range time I want this as a night stand gun, and I have a mental block about leaving magazines loaded  . I know it shouldn't be a problem but it bugs me anyway.

I'll definitely be getting the 4 inch. The 6 inch is just too Dirty Harry for me, and one of these days I may want to carry it camping/trails down in Missouri (home state).

Besides I love my p226, so I'll survive without another semi-auto. For a little while at least.

Sigh, now comes the fun part of applying for a new pistol permit. My town isn't too bad so it should only take 2 weeks to get. The nice thing is the range I'm a member at will store the gun for me while I wait for the permit.

What do you guys think is a fair price on a 4 inch stainless gp100? Buds list them around $535.

I know the poll was only up briefly, but I'm not much for procrastinating.

I have both and really like the both.

Ammo for the CZ will be much less expensive, but the GP 100 is a blast to shoot. If you reload, get the GP100. If you don't, get the CZ.

Screw it. Find a way to get them both.
