i'm in love with my new HK

Fluffybunny,

Congratulations on your new USP.45F. I have one myself and can't shoot it enough. Which leads to your second question, where to find cheap ammo. I assume you don't reload and neither do I, just don't have the time, but I buy .45ACP ammo from Natchez shooters supply, check out there web page. The cheapest .45ACP ammo, I've seen, is CCI Blazer $7.20 a box of 50. I bought a case and didn't have one failure with it. However, I thought the loads were inconsistant, one round felt light the next was like firing a howitzer. My last couple of cases have been Seller & Belliot, $8.20 a box of 50. I've been pleased with this ammo, consistant loads, and plenty accurate for me. Some say it has dirty powder, I think no more dirty than other brands. But it's your choice, I've shot several different brands of ammo, all 230 gr. ball, and have not had one problem at all with any of it. I have over 5200 rounds through my USP. 45F and it's been flawless. Good luck with your new handgun, be safe and have fun with it.

rvb,

Granted DA trigger pull isn't the best of all guns. The more you shoot in DA the smoother it gets, I think. I've gotten fairly accurate using the DA trigger and it doesn't bother me, but you have to practice.

Flattop,

thanks for the feedback..

it's not that I can't shoot the DA shots, in fact sometimes I swear I hit better with DA than SA since I practice it so much (if it's going to be your first shot, might as well be your best, eh?) . And I've got about 1200 rounds through it over the last few months, and I've dry-fired in DA a TON, yet it's still pretty gritty and HEAVY. Maybe I do need to place a small order to Wolff?

fluffybunny, don't let this conversation discourage your love, it's l a GREAT pistol... just that there's one area (the trigger) that IMO could be improved.

Why use DA as the first round? Admittedly, this may take a second longer, but I carry my HK USP9 with a full magazine, NONE in the chamber, and 'safe.' When needed, you rack the slide, flip the safe, and SA away.

As to uning the USP 9: only problem I had was using less-than-147gr. bullets--the weapon ALWAYS fired low at 50 yds. Got the 147's (took a bit to find FMJ's that were NOT HP's) and it's right on target.

Heavy, brutish gun. Love it!

Ninenot,

[why do you need the safety on an empty chamber???]

Well, if duelling, I bet I shoot you first... I just pull the trigger.
No remembering safeties, grabing at slides, nothing, just bang.

Why do *I* prefer this?
It's a matter of preference and what you practice with. My two Beretta 92's (One's a G model: has no safety) and my HK are kept chambered and with safety off, uncocked, ready to go. It's a 'manual of arms,' if you will, that works with many, many handguns. This means I can have several guns and they all go bang the same. Traditional DA revolvers as well.

Does this mean I don't like SA arms, like cond. I HK's or 1911's? NO. (I can't wait to afford myself a new springfield!). But my bedside gun will always be a DA.

Now, (because I don't want to get off topic by repeating an old DA vs SA thread), even *IF* I only shot from cond. 1, that still doesn't address the 'problem.' I would still point out that that DA pull is a bear (and the SA is pretty mushy, too, btw), specifically for people who, like me, prefer to use it.

respectfully,

rvb

Congrats

...on your purchase. As anyone who has read any of my posts can attest, I love HKs as well. I'd take a look at the Expert for your next HK purchase.
