I'm having a problem with my new Ruger SP101.

I would look into that. My SP101 is very smooth and my 120 lb wife, who had two wrist surgeries, can easily pull the trigger. I think the SP101 is an awesome handgun, I wouldn't give up on it just yet.

Is the gun clean???

My older model SP101 (1990's) will gum up after shooting around 75-100 rounds and until cleaned and lubed becomes difficult to pull trigger. They should be very smooth, so what you are describing is NOT normal. When cleaning, pay close attention to getting inside of cylinder hole where the pin? is (what the cylinder revolves around!) (sorry, my revolver nomencalture is not good)

kayakersteve - Just curious - is your 101 "gumming up" from factory ammo - if so, a certain brand? Or are you shooting re-loads? If re-loads, what are you using for bullet lube & powder? Thanks.

The ruger is fine. Mechanically speaking.

It's brand spanking new and this was it's first real range trip.

Thanx for the advice but I got the answers I was looking for.

It sounds like there is something wrong with your SP and although that would be very odd.. it can happen. I own one and so does my wife and my 78 year old Mother, none have a heavy trigger.
