I'm a little stumped, is this guy on crack?

It may very well be worth that, if it did indeed belong to General "Blackjack" Pershing. Mighty interesting!

IF the gun is what he claims with the right paper work someone might buy it for that. If he can ge that price more power to him.

Blackjack Pershing is an historical personage.
If it's his gun, it could very well be worth that.

The other day on Gunbroker I was stunned at the asking price for a handgun once owned by Lee Jurras.

Now a real savvy handgunner might know who Lee Juras was, but the average person who has heard of Blackjack Pershing wouldn't.

If Lee Juras gun was worth the asking price, Blackjacks gun would be worth a LOT more.

It has to do with fame more than anything else.

If a dealer has a Colt Python once owned by Elvis Presley and one I own made the same year, Elvis ' gun will be worth a lot more than mine because I am not famous and he was.

Now a real savvy handgunner might know who Lee Juras was, but the average person who has heard of Blackjack Pershing wouldn't.

Since I don't have a clue who Lee Juras was but I DO know of Pershing, I suppose you're either saying that I'm not a savvy handgunner (admittedly true), or not an average person (false, I hope:D).

Well I'm not average by any means... MY pistol accuracy has always been non existent :)

But I've NEVER heard of either of those guy's and had to look up the Pershing dude on google...

The type of history I love isn't about gun's nor wars nor generals, I'm just a gun lover in general. My historical love is for THINGS :) gun's, knives, radios, record players and furniture Etc...

I really love guns and shooting them , but I don't care who owned what, that in essence, is just a silly form of male anatomy envy... I so don't understand how a person can covet something simply because a different person owned it. It's ridiculous to me...

The stuff I love, I love because of it's historical value in relation to the TIME in which it was utilized, not in relation to the person that owned it.

Maybe I'm just a tard... :)

Thanks for your opinions folks.

Boy oh boy that Juras guy can shoot! But like I inferred before, I don't care what other people can do, it's what I can do that matters to me.

All I must try at this point it to NOT pass down to my daughter, my inability to hit anything including the ground with a semi auto pistol... :D :D

Wow. General Pershing's first issued gun? I would imagine that price may be even higher to historian/collector. A piece like that should be in a museum.

Can you imagine what Sgt York's issued 1911 would sell for if they ever tracked the down where the gun went after his tour of duty?

I sunno. I consider myself to be pretty "average", and I know something of both figures mentioned above.

Savvy handgunner? Not really, but I own, carry, and hunt with 'em. Can't read too much about handgunning without leaning a thing or two about Lee Jurras; sorta like learning history and learning something about General "Blackjack" Pershing.

The fact that (if it's true) the gun was issued to Pershing before he became a general, and famous would likely add to the value.

Sorta like "rookie" cards to a baseball card collector.

I couldn't, and wouldn't pay that much for it, but if I was a collector or such things, and found the documents to be certifiably true, then I might. Such one-of-a-kind items can and do bring rediculously high prices sometimes.

Man, I'm glad I'm not a collector of such things.

I knew who both guys were when I was in junior high school although I knew who Pershing was when I was not yet in grade school.

When my dad was a kid, him and his three brothers all got a "piggy bank" in the image of General Pershing. They are made of brass I think. When I was a little kid, my dad gave his to me and told me who it was. I still have the bank today. It is sitting on a bookshelf and has my grandfathers WWI dogtags around his neck, my uncle's WWII dogtags around it's neck, as well as my dogtags around it's neck.

As far as the shipping: I would imagine that once you pay him that kind of money, you need to ship it overnight and insured for that kind of money. If you pay that kind of money for something, having it delivered and left out on your porch or having it get "lost" enroute isn't a good thing.

I have a gun owned by Screech from Saved by the Bell. It's a Jennings .22. My low reserve price is only $1500.

I notice that they came with a price they pulled out of their *** for it. And they used the stupid retailer trick, 5$ below a round number for it? So dropping the last fiver is gonna seal the deal? On six figures? Since it is a made up price, why not just make it a nice round number? Hey I know, Cut 7000 off the price and put 10k to ship in small numbers! He should put it up on one of the quality auction houses, if it is real. Heck, why not ask a million for it? All very interesting, but I agree it is museum goods.

Wil you're funny :)

I don't think so. The one paying that amount is the crack head. You never know when a stupid person with a lot of money will come by and sit in your lap.
I agree, and hope it does... :D

444, I never paid attention to WWI in history because I didn't care too much about past wars, and, although I spent 13 years active duty, shooting expert with rifle and marksman wit the 45, I never heard about the two individuals...

I also don't read books about shooting or hunting, as I shoot very well, and hunt the same {if you call coming home empty handed doing it well :)}

If it don't come naturally to me then I don't do it, or i practice alone until I can, therefore I can attribute the skill only to me and not based on what I read... But...

That ALL changed when I showed up on this site back in January

Maybe I'll hear about them in the future, but I've never had that kind of hero worship for anyone except my Dad :), and he is giving me his gun's upon his demise...

Maybe the General's grand kid got it from his dad last year and hocked it for $45 bucks... Now this guy is trying to bank on it...

Shipping on my genuine Screech custom Saved by the Bell Jennings .22 is only $200. I'll even include tracking.
